We Need Your Talents: Serve on a Committee

By volunteering to serve on a State Bar of Wisconsin committee, you will accomplish work that benefits the Wisconsin legal community and the justice system – while making connections with colleagues. State Bar President-elect Cheryl Daniels is seeking volunteers to serve on a committee for the 2021-22 fiscal year – apply by April 15.

    Cheryl Furstace Daniels

Feb. 3, 2021 – We all know this year has been a year like no other.

Cheryl DanielsCheryl Daniels, U.W. Law 1985, is president-elect of the State Bar of Wisconsin. She is an Assistant Legal Counsel with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Lawyers have been challenged by the pandemic, challenged to confront how a person’s race matters in keeping the justice system from giving “equality under the law,” and challenged by how the speed of technology or the lack of it either puts our practices careening on the edge of being out of control or suddenly puts it to a screeching halt.

And now I’m challenging you in a different way – to put yourself forward on behalf of you and the other 25,000 members of the State Bar of Wisconsin. I will soon be given the privilege, as incoming president, to appoint members to the State Bar’s standing and special committees. I am asking you assist my work by submitting a Volunteer Interest Form to request an appointment to a committee to begin service on July 1, 2021.

The committees, with members who bring their diverse practices, perspectives, and personalities to the table, are so important to how the State Bar functions and how it assists its members as they navigate the current and future challenges in the profession. Committee members come from all different areas of Wisconsin, and as nonresidents from different areas of the country, all of whom bring fresh ideas from myriad legal communities.

You bring your talents to the table and you network with an expanded group of your colleagues who are interested in the same issues. You listen to different perspectives, bring forward your ideas to the wider State Bar and take all that you’ve learned to grow in your own practice.

Please consider this the best type of challenge in a challenging year – one where you will make connections, put forward your best ideas, and help to accomplish work that will benefit all of the Wisconsin legal community and the justice system.

I’m really looking forward to hearing from you!
