Are You Ready for Mandatory E-filing?
Mandatory e-filing in Wisconsin circuit courts began July 1, 2016, in some counties and will be in place in all counties by the end of 2017. To learn more, read "Are You Ready? Mandatory E-filing in Effect July 1," published in the June 2016 Wisconsin Lawyer magazine.
Under Wis. Stat. section 801.18, attorneys and high-volume filers, such as collections agencies, are required to file electronically on a schedule set by the Director of State Courts Office. Mandatory e-filing is now available in 16 counties for civil, small claims, family, and paternity cases. In addition, e-filing in criminal cases is voluntary in most of these counties.
The planned schedule for the rest of 2016 is:
- Nov. 1: Ashland, Rusk
- Nov. 15: Oneida, Waukesha
- Dec. 1: Marathon, Racine
