March 5, 2014 – Is it illegal for your client to hack into a spouse’s email account? Did you know that an iPhone can be turned into a listening device with a small piece of software? What should lawyers know about computer security, backups, and metadata to protect their clients? Do you have questions about the changed landscape of legal fees? • How the Wisconsin Rules of Professional Conduct are affected by using different alternative fee arrangements

    • How clients perceive value for legal services

    • Understanding value and how to determine alternative fees

    • Using technology to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and value

    • Implementing alternative fee arrangements

Petro has 14 years of solo legal practice experience and 12 years as CEO of CenCom Legal Technologies, which he founded to help lawyers and their staff deal with the practice management issues facing them.

Second Session – Dirty Tricks: Understanding Spying, Hacking & Stealing Data in Legal Matters

Is it illegal for your client to hack into a spouse’s email account? Did you know that an iPhone can be turned into a listening device with a small piece of software? What should lawyers know about computer security, backups, and metadata to protect their clients? More and more, desperate clients are resorting to desperate techno-tricks to gain an advantage in a legal matter, but often lawyers don’t know what to do when confronted with the fact their client may have hacked into private data. Find out about the methods clients are using to “get a leg up” in their legal matter and what lawyers need to know about illegal spying and hacking. This session is presented by Todd Scott.

Scott, Minnesota Lawyers Mutual Insurance (MLM) Company vice president of risk management, helps lawyers select and implement software systems appropriate to their particular practice. Scott previously served as attorney/claims representative for MLM, and headed its technology subsidiary, Mutual Software.
