Interested in Equal Justice? Register For the Equal Justice Conference in Madison on March 8

Jan. 16 2013 – The 2013 Wisconsin Equal Justice Conference will bring together community representatives committed to expanding equal justice under law for low-income and disadvantaged Wisconsin residents who face civil legal issues. The biannual conference will take place on March 8, at the U.W. Pyle Center in Madison. At this event, organized by the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Legal Assistance Committee, attendees will learn more about specific strategies and projects that will strengthen our collective ability to expand access to justice.

Innovative pro bono and legal aid advocates from Atlanta, Chicago, and Minneapolis will join this year’s conversations to describe creative solutions in their states. The conference will kick off with an Access to Justice Update presented by some of our key stakeholders, followed by breakout sessions on a range of topics.

    • Morning breakout sessions include: private fundraising in difficult times and using technology to enhance pro bono and self-help services.

    • Afternoon breakout sessions include: measuring outcomes for legal assistance providers and limited scope representation – ethics and practice for access to justice supporters.

The afternoon wrap-up session, Next Steps for Lawyers, Judges, and Law Schools, will be presented by Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Richard Sankovitz, a long-time supporter of pro bono legal services.

The conference closes with the presentation of the Legal Assistance Committee and Public Interest Law Section pro bono award presentations.

The conference is sponsored by the Legal Assistance Committee and the Public Interest Law Section of the State Bar along with the Wisconsin Access to Justice Commission.

This all-day program is only $25 for State Bar members and will be submitted for CLE credit.
