Additional Charges

  • Color: For two-color positions inside add $300 to the earned rate; for four-color positions inside add $600.
  • Metallic ink: add $650 to earned rate.
  • Bleed: 20% charge.
  • Preferred position: 20% charge.
    Multiple insertion rates are based on the number of ad units used within 12 months, whether the same or varying sizes. Rates effective Jan. 1, 2008.

"Members-Only" Announcement Rates

Discounted rates available only to State Bar members to publish announcement advertisements such as opening a new office, promoting or hiring an attorney, or moving. Advertisements for seminars, products or services offered by State Bar members do not qualify for the discount. Special rate is available for no more than three issues during the calendar year. No agency commission. Full page, $850/issue; one-half page, $645/issue; one-third page, $500/issue; one-quarter page, $400/issue. Prices include composition.

Classified Advertising

Prepaid; $25 minimum charge; $1.75 per word for State Bar members; $2.25 per word for nonmembers; $25 additional for blind box assignments. Closing date for classifieds is the 10th of the month preceding issue. Display classified - boxed ad with bold headline - maximum 100 words, $200 for members; $250 for nonmembers. Discounts: 5% for three insertions; 10% for six insertions; 15% for 12 insertions. No agency discounts.

Online classifieds: All Wisconsin Lawyer classifieds will be posted, at no charge, in WisBar's online classified section about two weeks before the magazine is published, and will remain active for as long as the print ad is scheduled. WisBar classifieds average more than 20,000 visits per month. For an additional $75 ads will be posted online upon receipt.

Can't wait for print deadlines? Post a classified yourself to WisBar's classifieds - and pay online - anytime! Rates: $75/week for members; $125/week for nonmembers. Rates include unlimited word count, email and URL links, and optional logo/image. Ads posted directly to WisBar do not automatically appear in the print Wisconsin Lawyer, but do qualify for discounted rates if scheduled in the next issue.

The State Bar does not publish ads that cap the number of years' experience, i.e. two to five. Employment ads inconsistent with Wis. Stat. Chapter 111 are not accepted.

All Wisconsin Lawyer and online classifieds are formatted to a consistent style.

Mechanical Specifications

Three columns (13 picas per column). Offset. 133-line halftone screen. Saddle stitch binding. Four-color process colors available.

Electronic submission of ads

PC format preferred. InDesign, PDF/Acrobat 4.0 or higher, PhotoShop 5.0 or higher, Illustrator 9.0 or higher. Advertiser must supply CD-ROM, disk, or email that contains fonts, all related links/graphics, application file, and PDF file, along with a laser print. Indicate bleed and trim. General Policies

Payment Policy

The publisher requires all new in-state advertisers to prepay for their first insertion. New out-of-state advertisers are required to prepay their first two insertions. Advertising will be cancelled by the publisher when payment of published advertising is 60 days past due. Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

Commissions/Discounts

Fifteen percent commission to recognized agencies on regular display ads. No agency commission on classified ads or on mechanical costs, e.g., color, alterations, bleed or position charges. Invoices must be paid within 30 days of billing or commission will be lost. No cash discounts.

General Rate Policy

The publisher reserves the right to adjust rates on a 60-day written notice. New rates apply to all advertising regardless of previous contract, although contract advertisers have the right to adjust their contracts in the event of a rate change.

Return of materials

Ad materials will be retained by the State Bar for 12 months and not returned unless otherwise specified in writing.

Joint Liability

Publisher reserves the right to hold advertiser and/or its agency jointly and severally liable for such monies as are due and payable to the publisher.

Publisher's Copy Protective Clause

Advertisers and advertising agencies assume liability for all content (including text, representations and illustrations) of advertisements printed, and also assume responsibility for any claims arising thereof made against the publisher. The publisher reserves the right to reject any advertising not in keeping with the publisher's standard. All copy is subject to publisher's approval.

Stipulations

A contract (except for cover and preferred positions) may be suspended or cancelled on 30 days' written notice and rate will be adjusted to that earned rate by actual number of insertions used. Cover and preferred position ads may be suspended or cancelled on 90 days' written notice and rate will be adjusted to actual insertions. Publisher will not be bound by any conditions, printed or otherwise, appearing on order blanks or copy instructions when such conditions conflict with publisher's announced policies.

The publisher shall not be liable for any costs or damages if for any reason it fails to publish an advertisement. The publisher's liability for any error will not exceed the cost of the space occupied by the error or the erroneous ad.
