POSITION INFORMATION
The Assistant City Attorney position primarily acts as the lead municipal prosecutor for the City of Wausau. Additionally, this role performs professional municipal legal services including code enforcement, ordinance drafting, negotiation and review of contracts, drafting transactional documents for real estate matters, and provides advice to departments, elected officials and their committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from an accredited law school
- Admission to the Bar of the State of Wisconsin and current good standing status
- Two (2) or more years of legal practice experience as an attorney; preferably in a governmental capacity.
Preferred qualifications include governmental prosecution experience, real estate and transactional law background, experience advising government officials, and strong public speaking and negotiation skills.
Candidate attributes must include ethical integrity, decisive judgment under pressure, strong communicator, collaborative with departments and staff, and adaptable to political and community settings.
