Oct. 28, 2025 – The U.S. Senate on Monday confirmed President Donald Trump’s nomination of Rebecca L. Taibleson to be the next judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
Taibleson is Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and co-chief of the office’s Appellate Division. Her confirmation fills the seat of Judge Diane S. Sykes, who began senior status on Oct. 1.
The Senate voted 52-46 to confirm the nomination.

Taibleson received the recommendation of Wisconsin’s bipartisan Federal Nominating Commission, established by Sens. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), as well as receiving an interview with White House staff.
Taibleson received her undergraduate degree from Yale University in 2005 and, after a year at Stanford Law School, graduated from Yale Law School in 2010.
After law school, she clerked for then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and for the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
She also served as assistant to the U.S. Solicitor General from 2019 to 2022.
Johnson yesterday congratulated Taibleson on her confirmation.
“I am confident that she will be a valuable addition to the Seventh Circuit, given her strong commitment to the Constitution and her dedication to applying the law as written,” Johnson said.
