Leonard L. Loeb Scholarship awarded
The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers has awarded its first
Leonard L. Loeb Scholarship to Hannah Renfro-Sargent, a
third-year student at the U.W. Law School, Madison. The late Leonard
Loeb was a nationally recognized family lawyer who practiced in
Milwaukee for several decades. He was a past president of the national
American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and started the Wisconsin
chapter of the organization, and he was State Bar president in
1999-2000. Renfro-Sargent, who cofounded the Children's Justice Project
at the U.W. Law School, was commended for her strong talents in family
law and for her compassion for families going through the painful
divorce process.
Mentors recognized for exemplary service
Six senior lawyers were recognized for a lifetime of exemplary
service to the legal profession through a commitment to mentoring and
supporting young lawyers. The six were honored during the State Bar's
"Building for Success: The Ultimate 'How To' Seminar for New and
Not-So-New Lawyers" held at three locations in January.
Mentorship Award recipients included: Hon. Thomas J.
Curran, Milwaukee; Margadette
Demet, Milwaukee; Jack DeWitt,
Madison; Patrick T. Sheedy, Milwaukee; Lowell
E. Sweet, Elkhorn; and G. Lane Ware,
Wausau.
"These wonderful lawyers are recognized as outstanding role models
and have served as mentors to other attorneys throughout their careers,"
said State Bar President George Burnett, who presented the awards.
Burnett also cited "the valuable service of these lawyers to the legal
profession and, in particular, to the State Bar."
