    New Hires, Promotions, Partners

    Two attorneys have been promoted at Dean Health Plan, Madison. Christine C. Duval-Senty, Hamline 1997, has become director of legal services, and Dean A. Sutton, Marquette 2003, has become manager of subrogation and TPL recovery.

    Christopher W. Dyer, Drake 2000, has been promoted to partner at Parke O'Flaherty Ltd., La Crosse, continuing to concentrate on civil litigation and criminal defense.

    Timothy J. Schumann, Marquette 1995, and Oyvind Wistrom, Marquette 1995 cum laude, have been elected shareholders at Lindner & Marsack S.C., Milwaukee. Schumann practices in worker's ompensation defense and health insurance subrogation. Wistrom concentrates in employment law and litigation.

    Michael M. Riley, Marquette 1999, has become a partner at Gray & End LL.P., Milwaukee. He is a member of the creditors' rights group and focuses his practice in mortgage lending, real estate, and related litigation.

    Steven E. Zablocki, Michigan State cum laude 1999, has joined the firm, practicing mortgage lending, real estate litigation and creditor's bankruptcy. He previously was with Bass & Moglowsky, Milwaukee.

    Robert E. Mahoney, John Marshall 1986, has joined the Milwaukee office of Wessels & Pautsch P.C. He focuses on representing management in all forms of labor and employment-related litigation and on counseling employers about employment practices, negotiation, alternative dispute resolution, and general litigation avoidance tactics.

    Michael R. Miller, Chicago 1993 with honors, has joined Ireland, Stapleton, Pryor & Pascoe P.C., based in Denver, Colo., as an officer, continuing his practice in business law and transactional matters. He previously was a shareholder in the Madison office of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C.

    John C. Orth, U.W. 2003, has joined Mays Law Office LLC, Madison, as an associate, focusing on criminal and traffic defense.

    Michael L. Silhol, U.W. 1985, has been named senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Radiologix Inc., Dallas, Texas. He also has been appointed Chair of the In-House Counsel Practice Group of the American Health Lawyers Association and was recently certified in health law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He previously was vice president of legal operations for Plano, Texas-based Triad Hospitals, Inc.

    Laura Skilton Verhoff, U.W. 1997, and Richard C. Yde, U.W. 1979, have been named partners at Stafford Rosenbaum LLP, Madison. Verhoff focuses on estate planning, probate, and litigation, particularly repre-sentation of automobile manufacturers and dealers. Yde, who was West Bend city attorney for 14 years, focuses on government law, with an emphasis on property valuation, land use, and development matters.

    David James Turiciano, Loyola 2000, has joined Cook & Franke S.C., Milwaukee, focusing on business and corporate matters, commercial litigation, and health care. He previously was with Oliver, Close, Worden, Winkler & Greenwald, Rockford, Ill.

    Mergers, Relocations, New Associations

    Jeffry W. Smith, Chicago-Kent 1988, and Jennifer L. Amundsen, U.W. 2003, have formed Smith & Amundsen, 440 Science Dr., Suite 302, Madison. Smith, a patent attorney, focuses on litigating and prosecuting patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and on other aspects of intellectual property law. Amundsen focuses on trademarks, copyrights, and related aspects of intellectual property law, including litigation.

    Thomas & Opp P.A., a technology law firm, has moved to 10801 Wayzata Boulevard, Minneapolis, Minn.

    Appointments, Elections

    Jeffrey B. Bartell, U.W. 1968, has been appointed to the Monona Terrace Convention & Community Center Board by Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. Bartell is a partner with the Madison office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

    Cynthia L. Richson, Chicago-Kent 1990, has been appointed to the standing advisory group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, which establishes auditing standards. She is corporate governance officer for the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.

    Anne Taylor Wadsack, U.W. 1971, has been named to the board of directors of the Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society of Wisconsin Inc., which presents a chamber music festival each summer. She is with the Madison office of DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., focusing on family law, including mediation and collaborative law.

    Jordan K. Lamb, U.W. 2002, was appointed to the interim board of directors for the new State Bar Agricultural/Agribusiness Law Section. He is with DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., Madison, focusing on government relations and administrative law.

    Michael P. May, U.W. 1979 cum laude, has been appointed Madison city attorney by Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. He previously was a partner with Boardman, Suhr, Curry & Field LLP, Madison, practicing governmental and utility law and litigation.

    Authors, Speakers

    Douglas H. Frazer, Northwestern 1985, has written "The Clergy, the Constitution, and the Unbeatable Double Dip: The Strange Case of the Tax Code's Parsonage Allowance," Exempt Organization Tax Review (Feb. 2004). He is a privacy rights scholar and tax attorney with the Brookfield office of DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C.

    Jesse S. Ishikawa, Michigan 1980, authored the revised edition of Wisconsin Law of Easements (State Bar CLE Books 2d ed. 2004). He is with the Madison office of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C.

    Melanie Swank, Marquette 1994, edited the new book, Public Records and Open Meetings Laws Handbook (State Bar CLE Books 2004). She is with the Milwaukee City Attorney's Office.

    Awards, Degrees, Honors

    Several awards were presented at the annual program of the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association on April 27. Awards and their recipients include: Judge Myron L. Gordon Lifetime Achievement Award - the Hon. Thomas J. Curran, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; Judge Dale E. Ihlenfeldt Bankruptcy Award - the Hon. James E. Shapiro, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Milwaukee; Judge Robert W. Warren Public Service Award - Gregory B. Conway, Liebmann, Conway, Olejniczak & Jerry S.C., Green Bay; and Outstanding Service Award - Marquette University Law School, Milwaukee.

    Anne Knauff, Marquette 1983, has completed a management development course offered by the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization and now is certified as a Level I hospice manager. She is with the U.S. Department of Labor in Nashville, Tenn., focusing on coal mine safety and health matters.

    Michael Best & Friedrich LLP has been ranked as one of the top 20 largest health care law firms in the U.S. by Modern Healthcare, based on total membership in the American Health Lawyers Association.

    Jeffrey B. Bartell, U.W. 1968, and John S. Robison, Illinois 1978, both of Quarles & Brady LLP, Madison, have been recognized in the Chambers USA directory for their expertise in corporate/mergers and acquisitions. Bartell practices in securities, insurance regulatory, and general commercial matters. Robison focuses in privately-held businesses.

    Roger D. Strode, Marquette 1988, was named an Outstanding Health-care Transaction Lawyer of 2003 by Nightingale's Healthcare News. He is a partner in the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and joint ventures.
