    New Hires, Promotions, Partners

    Christopher A. Davies, U.W. 1999, has been named a partner with Consigny, Andrews, Hemming & Grant S.C., Janesville, practicing in personal injury, business litigation, family law, criminal defense, and employment dispute resolution.

    Daniel I. Droege Jr., Hamline 1987, has joined Murphy Desmond S.C., Madison, focusing in family law. He formerly was with Droege Law Office, Madison.

    Elizabeth (Liza) Kessler, U.W. 1997, has become program manager for America Online's Parental Controls, a part of the company's integrity assurance department.

    Kelly S. Kuglitsch, DePaul 2002 cum laude, has become an associate with the Milwaukee office of von Briesen & Roper S.C., focusing on assisting employee benefit plan administrators and fiduciaries with compliance with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and related regulations.

    Angela L. Pingel, Marquette 2002 cum laude, has joined the Milwaukee office of Krukowski & Costello S.C. She previously was vice president of investment operations for Heartland Advisors.

    Joseph P. Decker, Marquette 1994 cum laude, has joined the Madison office of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C. as a shareholder, practicing in the health care department. Christopher M. Beldin, Marquette 2000 magna cum laude, has become an associate with the labor and employment department of the firm's Milwaukee office.

    William T. Stuart, Marquette 1997 cum laude, has been named a shareholder at Meissner Tierney Fisher & Nichols S.C., Milwaukee, continuing to focus on real estate, environmental law, and commercial litigation.

    Tom Werlein, Minnesota 1989, has joined American Express Property Casualty, Green Bay, as its first litigation manager, in charge of defending insureds and the company in litigation nationwide. He previously was with the now-discontinued personal lines claims division of Northland Insurance Co.

    Mergers, Relocations, New Associations

    Bakke Norman S.C., with offices in New Richmond, Baldwin, and Menomonie, and the Byrnes Law Office, Amery, have merged. Daniel M. Byrnes, San Francisco 1963, and Brian D. Byrnes, Northern Illinois 1998 cum laude, will be the resident attorneys in the Amery office of Bakke Norman S.C. Daniel M. Byrnes concentrates in estate planning, probate, and business transactions. Brian D. Byrnes practices primarily in residential real estate, estate planning, bankruptcy, and municipal law.

    Timothy S. Riley, U.W. 1985, has joined David B. Lund, U.W. 1959, and Debra A. Stroik (formerly Petkovsek), U.W. 1990, in practice in De Forest. The firm is now known as Lund, Stroik & Riley S.C. Riley focuses on real estate, family law, and contracts.

    Relles, Borns & Long LLP has opened at 301 N. Broom St., Madison. David Relles, Catholic University 1977, Mark Borns, U.W. 1983, and Joseph Long, U.W. 1991, are partners in the firm, which concentrates in personal injury, civil litigation, family law, professional liability, and criminal and professional license defense.

    Shane W. Falk, Minnesota 1996 cum laude, has joined the firm as an associate, concentrating in family law and civil litigation. Falk previously was with Seidl & Stingl S.C., Wausau.

    Patti & Brill LLC has relocated its office to One N. LaSalle St., 44th Floor, Chicago, Ill.     Francis J. Sailer, Marquette 1978, has opened LaFave & Sailer LLP, 1101 Connecticut Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. He continues to practice in international trade, regulation, and customs, with an emphasis on unfair trade matters involving antidumping and countervailing duty cases. He previously was a partner with Dickstein Shapiro Morin & Oshinsky LLP, Washington, D.C.

    Wessels & Pautsch P.C., a management-side labor and employment law firm founded by Richard H. Wessels, DePaul 1967, will be opening a new office in Indianapolis. The firm's other offices are in St. Charles, Ill., Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Davenport, Iowa.

    Retirements

    Hon. Harry Halloway, U.W. 1947, has retired after 25 years as Milwaukee County court commissioner. He also was a trial lawyer for 26 years. Halloway, whose notable courtroom activities included dancing on the bench, singing, and playing with dogs, was known for his perpetual exuberance.

    Authors, Speakers

    Carlton D. Stansbury, Iowa 1990 with distinction, spoke on "Drafting and Funding College Education Provisions in Settlement Agreements" at the National CLE Conference in Aspen, Colo. Stansbury is a shareholder in the family law firm of Burbach & Stansbury S.C., Milwaukee.
