Louise Trubek, Yale
1960, received the 2000 Marygold Melli Achievement Award.
Trubek
is clinical director and senior attorney for the Center for Public
Representation, and a clinical professor in the U.W. Law School.
Trubek returned to Madison from Connecticut in 1973 with

clients who could not afford representation, and would teach law students
about representing clients at governmental hearings. Over the last
25 years, the Center has investigated the practice of red-lining in
mortgage loans and insurance, promoted the rights of women and the
poor in health care and welfare, and taken a leadership role in creating
the Citizen's Utility Board. The Center also has been part of writing
a patient's bill of rights, providing assistance to pro se litigants
in family court, and providing nonprofit groups access to technology.
Trubek also has received the Human Rights Award by the Association
of Trial Lawyers, 1987 and 1994, and was named as one of the 10 people
in Wisconsin who made a difference in the past decade by The Milwaukee

The Marygold Melli Achievement Award was established by the Legal
Association for Women to honor Professor Melli, one of the first women
