New Hires, Promotions, Partners

Hassan A. Allen, U.W. 2002, has joined the Los Angeles office of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi L.L.P. as an associate and focuses on business trial and litigation.

Matthew D. Kuehl, Miami 1999, and Eliza M. Reyes, John Marshall 1997, have joined Brennan, Steil & Basting S.C. Kuehl focuses on commercial and real estate litigation, products liability, medical malpractice, personal injury, and general litigation matters in the Lake Geneva office. He previously practiced in Wisconsin and Illinois. Reyes focuses on creditors' bankruptcy matters in the Madison office. She previously was a program attorney with the State Bar of Wisconsin.

Robert J. Brill, Marquette 1992, has joined Ziolkowski Patent Solutions Group SC as director of the Chicago office and focuses on intellectual property counseling and a variety of patent matters. He previously was with Patti & Brill LLC, Chicago.

Several attorneys have joined Cook & Franke S.C. Michael Erhard, Cincinnati 1973, is a shareholder in the Madison office and focuses on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation. Jeffrey S. Sokol, U.W. 1990, a shareholder in the Milwaukee office, is head of the intellectual property group, and focuses on domestic and international patent and trademark prosecution, infringement opinions, and litigation. Audra Bogdanski, Marquette 2004, is an associate in the litigation group in the Milwaukee office. Caroline S. Spongberg, Marquette 2005, is an associate in the business group in the Madison office.

Hickman	Martin

Lori A. Hickman, U.W. 2005, and D. Alexander Martin, Marquette 2003 magna cum laude, have joined the Madison office of DeWitt Ross & Stevens as associates. Hickman focuses on family law and estate planning, and Martin focuses on bankruptcy and litigation.

Spencer E. Davczyk, Marquette 2001, and Daniel R. Peters, Tulsa 2000, have been made partners in Davczyk & Varline LLC, Wausau. Gottlieb John Marmet, U.W. 2004, has joined the firm as an associate.

Jonathan A. Duecker, U.W. 1995, has been appointed Assistant Commissioner (Counterterrorism) of the New York Police Department. He previously was the director of the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security.

Margaret A. Fischbach, Hamline 1997, has joined Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, as director of operations.

Susanne Glasser, Minnesota 1995 with honors, has joined M. Sue Wilson Law Offices P.A., Minneapolis, as an associate and focuses on family law.

O'Day	Pierson

Tom O'Day, U.W. 2005 cum laude, and Brian L. Pierson, U.W. 1983 cum laude, have joined the Milwaukee office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C. O'Day is with the labor and employment practice group, and Pierson is head of the Indian nations law team.

Rebecca A. Holzhauer, Marquette 2003, has become a staff attorney with the office of Thomas J. King, a Chapter 13 standing trustee, in Oshkosh. She previously was with Quad Graphics.

Hayden

Jennifer M. Hayden, Marquette 2005, has joined McCoy & Hofbauer S.C., Waukesha, as an associate, focusing on civil litigation, commercial litigation, and insurance defense.

Virginia M. Bartelt, U.W. 1983 Order of the Coif, has joined Hurley, Burish & Stanton S.C. (formerly Hurley, Burish & Milliken S.C.), Madison, as a shareholder and focuses on real estate, business, and estate planning matters. She previously practiced in Middleton. Joe Cavitt, Kentucky 2001, and Dean A. Strang, Virginia 1985, have also joined the firm. Cavitt practices civil litigation with an emphasis in business and employment. Strang, the first Federal Defender in Wisconsin, practices trial- and appellate-level criminal defense.

Aaron Haase, Arkansas 2003, has been appointed special assistant U.S. attorney for the Federal District of Nebraska. He also is an assistant staff judge advocate at Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

Kuper

Debra E. Kuper, Marquette 1997, has become securities counsel for Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, Ill. She previously was assistant general counsel for Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Bentonville, Ark.

Miller

Peggy L. Miller, Marquette 2000, has rejoined Stellpflug, Janssen, Hammer, Kirschling, Bartels S.C., De Pere, and continues to focus on family law and collections.

Neil B. Posner, Marquette 1996, has joined the Chicago office of Much Shelist Freed Denenberg Ament & Rubenstein P.C. as a principal and head of the policyholders' insurance coverage department. He previously was a partner at Sachnoff & Weaver Ltd., Chicago.

Timothy A. Clark, Indiana-Bloomington 1995, and Sara L. Urban, U.W. 1996, have joined the seminars division of the State Bar of Wisconsin CLE department as program attorneys. Clark previously was materials coordinator for the State Bar. Urban previously was a clerk for the Hon. Paul B. Higginbotham.

Jennifer S. Walther, Georgetown 1990, has joined Mawicke & Goisman S.C., Milwaukee, as a shareholder and continues to focus on management-side labor and employment law.

Stephen Warch, U.W. 1991, has been promoted to shareholder at Halleland Lewis Nilan & Johnson, Minneapolis, and focuses on health care, insurance, and commercial litigation.

Mergers, Relocations, New Associations

Thomas P. Lyons, Marquette 1979, and Bruce A. Ranta, Wayne State 1982, have formed Lyons & Ranta LLP, 150 N. Sunnyslope Rd., Suite 270, Brookfield.

Quarles & Brady LLP and other members of the United States Law Firm Group have entered into a strategic agreement with the ADVOC network of international law firms.

Ely Leichtling, Virginia 1979, has been elected president of the Northwest Side Community Development Corp., Milwaukee, which provides business, real estate, and job training and development services to businesses and community residents. He is a partner with the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

Charles E. Hanson, U.W. 1973, has been named by the State Bar of Wisconsin as President-elect of the board of directors for the Wisconsin Association of Workers Compensation Attorneys, Inc. Hanson is senior partner with Hale, Skemp, Hanson, Skemp & Sleik, La Crosse.

Wyon F. Wiegratz, U.W. 1971, has been elected chair of the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region. He is a partner at Remley & Sensenbrenner S.C., Neenah.

Authors, Speakers

Jay Grenig, UC-Hastings 1971, Marquette University Law School professor, and William C. Gleisner III, Marquette 1974, have coauthored a multi-volume treatise entitled eDiscovery & Digital Evidence, published by the Thomson-West Company.

Paul W. Humphrey, U.W. 1989, participated in a regional law enforcement leadership summit sponsored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the National Highway Traffic Safety Institute in New York City in February. He is a Dane County assistant district attorney.

Jesse S. Ishikawa, Michigan 1980, has authored "A Checklist for Drafting Easements," The Practical Real Estate Lawyer (Nov. 2005) and "Tower Cranes, Trespass and Temporary Airspace Use Agreements," Probate & Property (Jan./Feb. 2006). He practices real estate law in the Madison office of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.

Rodney A. Johnson, Tulsa 1984, has coauthored Medicare, Medicaid, and Insolvency Handbook: Jurisdiction, Payment, and Enforcement (Am. Health Laws. Ass'n). He is with Palmetto GBA LLC, a subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina.

Three attorneys with Menn Law Firm Ltd., Appleton, have been named "2005 Wisconsin Super Lawyers" by Law & Politics Media Inc. Honored attorneys are Joseph J. Beisenstein, Joseph A. Bielinski, and Jonathan M. Menn. Menn retired from the firm in December.
