Baker to chair State Bar section
Milwaukee attorney will head Intellectual Property section
MADISON, June 4, 2003 - Attorney Jean C. Baker will
be the incoming chairperson for the State Bar of Wisconsin's
Intellectual Property Law section beginning July 1. During her one-year
term, she will oversee a 20-member committee that facilitates
communication among attorneys interested in intellectual property
law.
As a partner with Quarles & Brady, LLP, Baker practices in the
areas of patent, trademark and copyright law. In addition to being a
State Bar section chair, she is a member of the Wisconsin Intellectual
Property Law Association and served as the secretary-treasurer from 1995
to 1997 and president in 1998. Baker obtained an undergraduate degree in
biochemistry from the University of Georgia in 1979 and earned her Ph.D
in biochemistry in 1987. In 1990 she graduated from the UW-Madison Law
School as a member of the Order of the Coif. Her technical expertise
includes practical experience in molecular biology, microbiology and
chemistry. She is registered to practice law before the U.S. Patent and
Trademark Office.
The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association,
created by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, for attorneys who hold a law
license in Wisconsin. With more than 20,000 members, the State Bar aids
the courts in improving the administration of justice, provides
continuing legal education for its members to help them maintain their
expertise, and assists Wisconsin lawyers in carrying out community
service initiatives to educate the public about the legal system and the
value of lawyers.
