Speaker Addresses Diversity Initiatives, Strategies for Change in
the Legal Profession
State Bar of Wisconsin sponsors Diversity in the Legal Profession
program
MADISON, June 26, 2001 - More than 70 attorneys will
attend the 2001 Diversity in the Legal Profession program on June 28 at
the University Club in Milwaukee. Featured speaker Atty. Stacey Mobley,
senior vice president and general counsel for E.I. du Pont de Nemours
and Company will focus on diversity initiatives in the legal
profession.
"The legal profession needs to be a leader in the effort to end
racial bias at all levels of the justice system," said Gerry Mowris,
president-elect of the State Bar. "The demographics of the country are
shifting radically; the legal profession needs to reflect those
demographics to be representative of the public it serves."
The diversity program is the second collaborative effort of the State
Bar's Diversity Counsel Program, the Bar's Diversity Outreach Committee,
and the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Corporate Counsel
Association.
"We are pleased to have Mr. Mobley as our featured speaker," said
Gerardo Gonzalez, chair of the Diversity Counsel Program. "In keeping
with the Diversity Counsel Program's objective of increasing minority
and women lawyers' opportunities within the legal profession, Mobley
will share his perspectives on diversity initiatives and present his
strategies for change."
Du Pont is the 42nd largest U.S. industrial/service corporation. The
company operates in approximately 70 countries worldwide with 93,000
employees - one-third of these employees work outside the United
States.
The State Bar of Wisconsin is the mandatory professional association
for attorneys who hold a law license in Wisconsin. With more than 20,000
members, the State Bar provides continuing legal education, programs to
assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the
legal system for the public.
Increasing diverse participation in State Bar activities is one of
the State Bar Board of Governor's top goals.
Media are welcome to attend the luncheon, which begins at 11:45 a.m.
