EVENT: Mining Laws in Wisconsin Symposium
DATE/TIME: Thursday, August 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Jefferson St. Inn, Wausau
The State Bar of Wisconsin will sponsor a public symposium on the
history and operation of mining laws in Wisconsin on Thursday,
August 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the
Jefferson St. Inn in Wausau (201 Jefferson Street).
As you know, interest in mining has been spurred in recent months by
discussion of a potential Penokee Range mine in
Iron and Ashland Counties.
This symposium is an informational event for the media, citizens, local
officials and others who want to hear from experts on various federal,
state and tribal laws that impact mining in Wisconsin. The State Bar has
assembled a panel of legal and technical experts to participate in a day-long
educational seminar for Wisconsin attorneys with an interest in this
issue. The panelists have generously agreed to share their insights with
the general public in a separate symposium after the seminar.
Panelists
at the symposium will include attorneys and others with expertise on the
legal, scientific, property rights, environmental and other dimensions
of the proposed mine. The panel discussion will be moderated by Atty. Dennis M. Grzezinski. State
Bar President Jim Brennan will then facilitate a question and answer
session.
There is no charge for the symposium. The session will be recorded and
a video of the event will be posted on the State Bar website
for free downloads. No pre-registration is required if you’re
interested in participating in the evening symposium, but if you plan to
attend please let me know so we can ensure sufficient space. Also, let
me know if you’re interested in auditing the educational
seminar for attorneys (on a space available basis). There is no
charge for participating reporters, but space is limited and
pre-registration is required for this event.
