    State Bar seeks candidates for officers and district governors in 2011 elections

    Nov. 3, 2010 – Member volunteers are the driving force behind State Bar programs and initiatives. When you get involved, you help shape the future of your Bar and your profession.

    As a State Bar volunteer, you serve a vital role in providing member and public services while gaining the personal and professional satisfaction of making a difference in the profession and the legal system. At the same time, you can gain one of the most valuable skills needed today ... leadership.

    Please consider contributing your time and expertise as an officer or Board of Governors representative.

    State Bar offices

    The State Bar will elect a president-elect, a treasurer, and a Judicial Council representative in 2011.

    The Nomination Committee will announce its slate of candidates by Dec. 15. State Bar members also can make officer nominations by filing a petition signed by 100 active Bar members with the State Bar by Feb. 1, 2011.     Board of Governors

    Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 will elect governors in 2011. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects seven; District 9 (Dane) elects three; and all other districts elect one. The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.

    To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition signed by 10 active members in their district at the State Bar by March 1, 2011. To receive a petition, visit Board of Governors or contact Marks.

    Division Officers

    The State Bar Government Lawyers (GLD), Nonresident Lawyers (NRLD), Senior Lawyers (SLD), and Young Lawyers (YLD) divisions are selecting candidates for their elections.

    GLD members will choose a president-elect, secretary, and treasurer and three division directors to serve two-year terms. GLD members are invited to write to the GLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Feb. 1.

    NRLD members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a secretary, a treasurer, and five directors to serve two-year terms. Only active and emeritus-status NRLD members can run for these positions. NRLD members should send their resumes and letters of interest to the NRLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.

    SLD members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a secretary and three directors to serve two-year terms. SLD members should write to the SLD Nominating Committee in care of the State Bar by Jan. 15.

    YLD members will choose a division president-elect. YLD members are invited to write to the YLD Nominating Committee Chair in care of the State Bar by Feb. 1. YLD directors and other officers will be elected during the annual meeting in May, by nomination from the floor.

    Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 8, 2011, and must be returned by April 22, 2011. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2011.
