Only one Annual Convention event is brimming with the awards – the Volunteer Recognition and Member Networking Celebration. Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson will present awards to attorneys and law firms for providing outstanding volunteer services in 2009. The celebration, free to all convention attendees, will be held from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m., on Thursday, May 6.

Inaugural Health Law Attorney of the Year Award

Martha E. Gaines, U.W., Madison is the recipient of the inaugural Health Law Attorney of the Year Award. Gaines is recognized for her contributions to the preservation and enhancement of the health and life of the people of Wisconsin.

Lawyer Hotline Firm of the Year

Godfrey & Kahn, S.C., is the recipient of the Hotline Firm of the Year Award. The Lawyer Hotline Program is a public service component of the Lawyer Referral and Information Service. Hotline attorney volunteers answer simple legal questions over the phone, allowing callers to better assess whether they wish to hire a lawyer or use the resource information provided to them.
