Court System Adds Security Step for Attorneys Accessing eCourts

Two-factor authentication is one of the updates for attorneys accessing court system applications coming in September. This extra step helps block unauthorized access, even when login credentials are compromised.

Aug. 27, 2025 – Attorneys who use eFiling, Online Bar Admissions, and Continuing Legal Education Reporting will need to complete two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging in to Wisconsin Court System applications beginning Sept. 21, 2025.

The update is part of a systemwide initiative to strengthen account security and protect confidential case information.

Two-factor authentication is already standard in many secure online systems. After entering a username and password, users will be prompted to enter a six-digit code sent to a verified email address or mobile phone number. This extra step helps block unauthorized access, even when login credentials are compromised.

    How to Prepare

To prepare for the rollout, users should take the following steps:

    • Check your contact information. Make sure your email address and mobile phone number are up to date in your account profile. This ensures you can receive verification codes.

    • Use delegation tools. If staff help manage filings or account activity, add them as delegees. Do not share your login credentials. Delegation allows others to access filing tools through their own accounts, helping maintain security and accountability.

Step-by-step instructions for delegation are available on the eFiling support site.

    Additional Improvements

The update will also include a redesigned interface, improved self-service features, and an easier process for updating usernames.

A short video demonstrating the updated login process is available on YouTube.
