Jan. 18, 2023 – Lawyers who were admitted in an even-numbered year: Be sure to complete your continuing legal education (CLE) obligations by Jan. 31.
"Active" lawyers admitted to practice law in Wisconsin must obtain at least 30 continuing legal education (CLE) credits every two years.
Do you have questions on reporting? Here are a few answers, plus where to go for further information.
Report your CLE credits to the Board of Bar Examiners (BBE)
via their website. Questions about CLE requirements or reporting? Contact the BBE by
email or phone at (608) 266-9760.
Deadline: To avoid a late filing fee or other penalties, 2021-22 courses must be completed by Jan. 31, 2023, and CLE reports must be
submitted electronically to the BBE on or before Feb. 1, 2023.
Find out more about reporting your CLE credits in
The Wisconsin Lawyer's Guide to Earning, Tracking, and Reporting CLE.
Track your CLE records with the State Bar’s
myCLETracker (on your profile page on WisBar.org), a tool to keep track of CLE you have attended and to self-assess whether you need to earn more credit (you still must
report them to the BBE). Questions about myCLETracker? Contact the State Bar’s Customer Service Team by
email or phone at (608) 257-3838, toll-free at (800) 728-7788.
New lawyers admitted in 2022 are exempt from CLE attendance and reporting requirements for the current reporting period (Jan. 1, 2021 - Dec. 31, 2022). If you earned credits in 2022 (through Jan. 31, 2023), you can carry over as many as 15 credits into your next reporting period (Jan. 1, 2023 – Dec. 31, 2024).
Get your OnDemand credits before Jan. 31, 2023. The temporary rule allowing 27 credits via OnDemand programming expires Jan. 31. Under temporary rules issued by the Wisconsin Supreme Court during the pandemic, lawyers can obtain up to 27 credits through OnDemand programming for this reporting period (2021-22). However,
the temporary order expires on Jan. 31, 2023. Know that the order does not apply to ethics and professional responsibility (EPR) credits (3 EPR credits required), which must still be obtained through live programming, in-person or through live webcasts or live telephone seminars.
