Hearing to Reinstate Scott E. Selmer

A public hearing will be held before referee Michael Tobin on the petition of Scott E. Selmer, Minneapolis, to reinstate his Wisconsin law license.

Oct. 7, 2020 – On Nov. 19, 2020, commencing at 10 a.m., a public hearing will be held before referee Michael Tobin on the petition of Scott E. Selmer, Minneapolis, to reinstate his Wisconsin law license. Any interested person may appear at the hearing and be heard in support of or in opposition to the petition.

The hearing will be held by remote videoconference at the date and time set forth above. Any person wishing to testify at or watch the proceeding will be given access via videoconference.

Selmer is petitioning for reinstatement of his Wisconsin law license from a 12-month suspension imposed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court, effective July 15, 2016, for misconduct found by the Minnesota Supreme Court for his failure to obey court orders; unwarranted harassment; and failure to comply with discovery requests. Disciplinary Proceedings Against Selmer, 2016 WI 71, 227 Wis. 2d 85, 538 N.W.2d 252. Selmer’s prior discipline in Wisconsin also includes a private reprimand, two public reprimands, and an earlier one-year suspension.

To be reinstated, Selmer has the burden of substantiating by clear, satisfactory, and convincing evidence that 1) he has the moral character to practice law in Wisconsin, 2) his resumption of the practice of law will not be detrimental to the administration of justice or subversive of the public interest, 3) all of his representations in his reinstatement petition are substantiated, and 4) he has complied fully with the terms of the order of suspension and with SCR 22.26.
