Meehan	O'Brien	Starkweather

Three attorneys have joined the Madison office of Boardman Law Firm LLP. Andrew M. Meehan, U.W. 2007 magna cum laude, focuses on general and commercial litigation, real estate, and business law. Tess O'Brien, U.W. 1993 cum laude, has rejoined the firm as an associate and focuses on general litigation. John P. Starkweather, U.W. 1991 cum laude, focuses on real estate transactions and litigation. He previously practiced in Chicago.

Richard A. Coad, William Mitchell 2004, has joined Hurley, Burish & Stanton S.C., Madison, and continues to practice criminal defense. He previously was an associate federal defender with Federal Defender Services of Wisconsin.

Tara Mathison, Marquette 1999, has been promoted to shareholder at Davis & Kuelthau s.c., Milwaukee, and continues to practice civil and commercial litigation, with a focus on construction and insurance coverage matters. Heather Van Vugt Ramirez, Minnesota 2007, has joined the firm as an associate and practices corporate law.

Christine M. Genthner, Marquette 1988, has joined the Kenosha office of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. as an associate.

Wade Harrison, U.W. 2007, is with the labor and employment practice group in the Madison office. Jennifer B. Herzog, Illinois 2005 cum laude, is with the business finance and restructuring practice group in the Milwaukee office. She previously was a judicial clerk with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Sven E. Skillrud, Marquette 2005 cum laude, has joined the tax planning practice group in the Milwaukee office.

David M. Gorwitz, U.W. 2005, has joined Hal Harlowe & Associates S.C., Madison, and focuses on estate planning, real estate, and business transactions.

Kathryn (Kate) A. Harrell, Marquette 2006, has joined Bell, Gierhart & Moore S.C., Madison, and concentrates in insurance and medical malpractice defense.

George W. Jonas, U.W. 1998, has become head intellectual property counsel and registered in-house counsel with SunPower Corp., San Jose, Calif., which manufactures high-performance solar electric technology. He previously was intellectual property counsel at 3M Co., St. Paul, Minn.

Eric P. Joranson, Hamline 2006, and Derek R. Kritzer, Marquette 1997, have joined the Madison office of DeWitt Ross & Stevens s.c. Joranson focuses on government relations and litigation. He previously was a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Jodi Williamson, Rochester, Minn. Kritzer focuses on mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiations, real estate, securities, and intellectual property law.

Jeffrey S. Kuglitsch, Southern Illinois 1988, has become Rock County corporation counsel. He previously was Shawano County corporation counsel.

Dawn C. Leemon, William & Mary 2006, has joined Petit & Dommershausen S.C., Menasha, as an associate and focuses on criminal defense, family law, and employment law.

Jamie E. Lyden, Valparaiso 2007, has joined the Janesville office of Consigny, Andrews, Hemming & Grant S.C., as an associate.

Jamison Lynch, U.W. 1998 cum laude, has been promoted to partner in the Chicago office of Mayer Brown LLP and continues to concentrate on pharmaceutical patent matters.

J. Ryan Maloney, Marquette 2007, has joined Peterson, Johnson & Murray as an associate in the Milwaukee office.

Michele Marsh, Southwestern 1994, has joined the Schroeder Group S.C., Attorneys at Law, Waukesha, and continues to focus on litigation.

Jonathan P. Nagy, Southern Methodist 2000, has joined American Family Mutual Insurance Co., Madison, as staff counsel. He previously was with Payne & Blanchard LLP, Dallas.

Eric L. Hafferman, Valparaiso 2002, and James E. Snodgrass, Nebraska 1971, have joined Nowakowski & McManus LLP, Elm Grove. Hafferman concentrates in worker's compensation defense and civil litigation. He previously was with Kasdorf, Lewis & Swietlik, Milwaukee. Snodgrass represents health insurance carriers in civil claims and employers and insurance companies in worker's compensation claims. He previously was with Snodgrass & Wahlberg.

Several attorneys have joined the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP. John Drury, Northwestern 2004, is on the labor and employment team. He previously was with Jenner & Block LLP, Chicago. Francine Felske, Case Western Reserve 1991, is on the public finance team. She previously was with Hurtado S.C., Wauwatosa. Chuck Leeck, U.W. 2000, is on the intellectual property team. He previously was with Godfrey & Kahn S.C. Ben Peirce, U.W. 2006, is on the intellectual property team. He previously was with Boyle Fredrickson. Chad Wiener, Marquette 2001, LL.M. Georgetown, is on the corporate services team. He previously was with Cane Clark LLP, Las Vegas.

Kristi S. Tlusty, Hamline 2007, has joined Schmiege Law Office LLC, Medford, and focuses on family law.

Jeanne E. Welcenbach, Marquette 2004, has joined her father and two older brothers in practice at Welcenbach Law Offices S.C., Milwaukee, as a partner and heads the Spanish-speaking litigation department.

Tracy N. Tool, Minnesota 1990, has been made a partner with Bye, Goff, Rohde & Skow Ltd., River Falls, and continues to concentrate on personal injury and insurance matters.

Three attorneys have joined Weld, Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C., Eau Claire, as associates. Jackson Evans, William Mitchell 2007 cum laude, is a member of the litigation section. Laurie Klinkhammer, William Mitchell 2007, is with the business section. Ryan Schuetz, William Mitchell magna cum laude 2007, is with the business and real estate section.

Jeffrey S. Kuglitsch, Southern Illinois University 1988, has been appointed the Rock County Corporation Counsel. He previously was the Corporation Counsel for Shawano County.

Bannen

John T. Bannen, Marquette 1976, LL.M. DePaul 1989, has been appointed Wisconsin state chair for the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He is a partner with the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP and focuses on estate planning and retirement fund matters.

Michael R. Fitzpatrick, Drake 1984, has been appointed to the Office of Lawyer Regulation grievance committee by the Wisconsin Supreme Court and to the State Bar Committee on Professional Ethics. He is chair of the litigation practice group with the Janesville office of Brennan, Steil & Basting S.C.

Gass Weber Mullins LLC, Milwaukee, has been accepted into the International Society of Primerus Law Firms, an alliance of small to medium-size, independent law firms.

Daniel J. Habeck, U.W. 1998, has been elected to the board of the Waukesha County Economic Development Corp. He is a partner with Cramer, Multhauf & Hammes LLP, Waukesha.

Hugh R. Jones, U.W. 1986, has been elected president of the National Association of State Charity Officials and is the 2007 recipient of the President's Award from the Hawaii State Bar Association. He is Hawaii deputy attorney general.

Amy K. Klockenga, Marquette 2007 cum laude, has been appointed judicial law clerk for the Hon. James T. Moody, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, Hammond, for the 2008-10 term. She currently is clerk for the Hon. N. Patrick Crooks, Wisconsin Supreme Court.

The La Crosse Area Young Lawyers Association has elected the following officers: president - Aaron K. Garms, West Salem; vice president - Sean W. O'Neill, Onalaska; and secretary/treasurer - Mindy N. Wiesjahn, La Crosse.

Olivieri

José A. Olivieri, Marquette 1981, has been named chair of the labor and employment relations practice group at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee. His practice includes immigration, discrimination, employee termination and discipline, unemployment compensation, and labor contract administration matters.

Miguel A. Ruiz, U.W. 1992, has been appointed chair of the City of Chicago Board of Ethics by Mayor Richard M. Daley. Ruiz is a shareholder at Pretzel & Stouffer, Chartered.

Mary Jo Schiavoni, U.W. 1974, has been admitted to the National Academy of Arbitrators. She is a private labor arbitrator working throughout the Midwest.

The Wisconsin School Attorneys Association has elected the following officers: president - Renae Waterman Aldana, Milwaukee; vice president - Victoria L. Seltun, Eau Claire; and secretary - John Ashley, Madison.

Mergers, Relocations, New offices

The Baraboo office of Boardman Law Firm, Boardman Quale Hartmann, has expanded with the addition of two attorneys, Brian F. Bates, Golden Gate 1991, and Rebecca Wagner Oettinger, U.W. 2007 magna cum laude. Bates practices in business, administrative, employment, and contract law. Oettinger practices in family law and trusts and estates.

Myszkowski

Gregory A. Myszkowski, U.W. 2007, has opened Myszkowski Law Office LLC, 1313 W. Seminary St., Suite 201, Richland Center, and emphasizes elder law, estate planning, and real estate.

Rodgers

Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP, which is headquartered in Milwaukee, has opened its seventh office, in Las Vegas. Partners leading the new office include Karma Rodgers, Marquette 1989.

Kenneth E. Broderick, Syracuse 1999, has opened Broderick Law Office, 6333 Odana Rd., Madison, and focuses on personal injury, general litigation, and insurance law. He previously was with a New York firm.

Authors, Speakers

Dennis L. Boyer, West Virginia 1978, has edited Rewarding Work (Interactivity Foundation, Parkersburg, W. Va.), a report based on a two-year-long citizens' discussion project. He previously was government relations counsel for the Wisconsin AFSCME Councils.

The Hon. Charles B. Schudson, U.W. 1974, presented the keynote address, "The Judicial Art in America Today - Touching Citizens, Leading Lawyers, Maintaining Independence," to the Indiana Judicial Conference in September. He is a reserve judge.

Awards, Degrees, Honors

Donald W. Becker, U.W. 1982, received the Eileen P. Sweeney Distinguished Service Award presented by the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives in St. Louis in October. He is with Becker Law Office S.C., Madison.

Chaet

Barry Chaet, DePaul 1974, received the 2007 Associate of the Year Award from the Wisconsin Innkeepers Association in recognition of his exemplary service to Wisconsin's lodging industry. He is president of the Milwaukee-based Beck, Chaet, Bamberger & Polsky S.C.

Dean Dietrich, Marquette 1977, and his wife, C. Ann, received the Cornerstone Award from Newman Catholic Schools (NCS) in honor of their significant contributions to the success and growth of the NCS family of schools, all in the Wausau area. He is a shareholder with Ruder Ware LLSC, Wausau, and chair of the State Bar Professional Ethics Committee.

Carol M. Gapen, U.W. 1988, was named a 2007 Angel in Adoption, a national award that honors her outstanding advocacy in adoption and foster care issues. She is cofounder of The Law Center for Children & Families, Madison.

Quarles & Brady LLP has been selected by Yale Law Women as the nation's number one law firm for family-friendly policies based on employment policies that facilitate work-life balance for attorneys. The firm also received the 2007 Professional Dimensions Pathfinder Award for its Women in Leadership Program diversity initiatives.

Anne E. Ross, Stanford 1981, was honored by the Madison Community Foundation's A Fund for Women, as the first woman partner at an international law firm in Madison. She is managing partner of the Madison office of Foley & Lardner LLP.

Smith

Robert J. Smith, U.W. 1974, has been inducted into the National Academy of Construction in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the effectiveness of the engineering and construction industry. He is a shareholder with Akerman Senterfitt Wickwire Gavin, Madison, and focuses on construction law.

Jill Gilbert Welytok, DePaul 1982, received the 2007 Wisconsin Innovation Champion Award from the Wisconsin Innovation Service Center at UW-Whitewater. She is a patent attorney and the founding partner of Absolute Technology Law Group S.C., Milwaukee.
