Pettit's remarks were featured at the Government Lawyers Division presentation during the State Bar Annual Convention.
June 26, 2009 – Three bills supported by the State Bar’s Criminal Law Section that amend and clarify various appellate procedures were signed into law on June 19. Assembly Bills 122, 123, and 124 were signed by Gov. Jim Doyle at a meeting of the Wisconsin Judicial Council in Madison.
June 18, 2009 – The Wisconsin Supreme Court overrules an earlier rule that limited warrantless entry and arrest in the suspect’s home under exigent circumstances to felony offenses. Dissenters argue the new standard is unworkable and erodes the Fourth Amendment.
