Dedicated to the continuing education of our members, the
State Bar of Wisconsin conducted focus groups and partnered
with the University of Wisconsin Law School and Wisconsin
Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company (WILMIC) to develop the
Business School for Lawyers (BSL) initiative.
The State Bar‘s focus is to provide education about the
operations, financial management, marketing, and human
resources concepts required for managing a law practice from
a business perspective. As part of this focus, we developed
BSL 201: Business Plans for Lawyers and
BSL 301: Business Principles for a Successful Law Firm,
which are two full-day seminars available as a CLE OnDemand and designed to be attended
together or separately depending on your needs. New
graduates and attorneys in the early planning stages of a
firm may want to attend both to get the whole picture.
Current law firm owners who don‘t desire a business plan
refresher could just attend BSL
301 to learn how to expand their business and improve
its efficiency.
In addition to the two full day seminars, the BSL Roundtable Series is a seven part series of one hour programs that focus on especific topics related to law firm management. The in-person seminars held every third Tuesday of the month also offer an additional hour for one-on-one consultations with the panelists.
No matter your level of law practice management experience,
this site will benefit you as a home for
additional resources like blogs and white papers,
current seminars, relevant breakout sessions at conferences
like fall's Wisconsin Solo & Small Firm Conference (WSSFC), and
future events that help lawyers succeed as small
business owners in a highly regulated industry.
