Leonard L. Loeb Award

The Senior Lawyers Division (SLD) offers activities and content focusing on the needs and interests of lawyers age 60 or older. Through the Leonard L. Loeb Award, the SLD recognizes a senior lawyer who has made significant contributions to the legal community, shown respect for the legal system, and demonstrated a love for the law and what it seeks to accomplish.

Leonard L. Loeb Award - Harvey Wendel

This year’s award goes to Harvey L. Wendel of Murphy Desmond S.C., in Madison. Attorney Wendel has over 50 years of experience representing clients in real estate development and financing, including sales and acquisitions. In 2003, Madison Magazine ranked him as a "Top Lawyer" in Alternative Dispute Resolution in Dane County.

Wendel’s deep respect for the legal system and love of the law is evident by his past and present involvement in multiple associations, boards, and committees. He is an active member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, and a past chairman, as well as past president, of the Bar’s Senior Lawyers Division. He is also a member and Director of the Dane County Bar Association, and serves as a co-membership chairman and member of the Courthouse Committee. In addition, Harvey serves on the Board and executive committee of the James E. Doyle American Inns of Court.

He is currently serving a three-year term on the Wisconsin Supreme Court Office of Lawyer Regulation District 9 Committee (January 2018 through December 2020), and he’ll continue working with the Appointment Selection Committee of the Wisconsin Supreme Court through 2022.

Other notable past duties include serving as an arbitrator on the Panel of Neutrals of the American Arbitration Association Board of Arbitrators, and monitoring the State of Wisconsin Attorney Regulation System from 2005 to 2013 as a member of the Wisconsin Supreme Court Board of Administrative Oversight.

Outside of the legal profession, Attorney Wendel has contributed his time and expertise to serving on the boards of Madison-area banks and leading the Friends of Madison School & Community Recreation as a past president. He also enjoys volunteering as a pontoon boat driver.
