    Director of Office of Lawyer Regulation – Wisconsin Court System

    The Wisconsin Court System is looking for a Director of Office of Lawyer Regulation to join a dedicated team in the Office of Lawyer Regulation. The Director supervises the Office of Lawyer Regulation and sixteen District Committees in the receipt, evaluation, formal investigation, and prosecution or other resolution of allegations of attorney professional misconduct and medical incapacity. This position manages the processing of grievances to ensure their correct, prompt, and economical resolution. This position also develops and conducts training of lawyer regulation system members, administers the regulation system and develops policy for the Supreme Court in conjunction with the Board of Administrative Oversight, Preliminary Review Committee and other entities. The Director carries out the powers and duties set forth in Supreme Court Rules, Chapters 21 and 22 and provides public information to promote understanding and confidence in the administration of justice. This position is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.

    LOCATION: Madison, Wisconsin
    SALARY: $145,500 to $153,462 with a State of Wisconsin benefits package. Salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.
    CLASSIFICATION: Director of Office of Lawyer Regulation

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1) Supervise staff and ensure compliance with all provisions of the Supreme Court Rules governing lawyer regulation, professional conduct for attorneys including investigations, presentation of findings, and providing formal training to various committees under the oversight of the Office of Lawyer Regulation.
    2) Oversee administrative functions of the Office including budget preparation and management, communications plans, supervision, and general administrative management.
    3) Oversee personnel functions of the Office including hiring, discipline, performance management, supervision, training and mentoring.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1) Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of five years of experience overseeing a regulatory legal or statutory function.
    2) A law degree from a school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
    3) Admission to the practice of law in the State of Wisconsin or ability to obtain licensure prior to employment.
    4) Experience managing administrative operations of a significant program area, including budgeting, personnel and strategic planning.
    5) Experience conducting and managing investigations and litigation.
    6) Experience developing and conducting training programs for a legal audience.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    1) Employment will require a criminal background check and compliance with all provisions of the Supreme Court Rules governing lawyer regulation and professional conduct for attorneys.
    2) Must meet the minimum standards for driving a state vehicle.
    3) Must be able to travel throughout the State of Wisconsin with occasional overnights.
