    Research Specialist – National Conference of Bar Examiners

    This Research Specialist will contribute to NCBE’s organization-wide efforts to ensure that diversity, fairness, and inclusion pervades NCBE culture, operations, test products, and services. This position will report to the Director of Assessment and Research and the President and work closely with NCBE’s leadership team to help the organization develop and achieve diversity, inclusion and fairness as strategic goals. Some travel will be required once COVID restrictions lift.

    Responsibilities
    • Communicate NCBE’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and fairness by contributing to publications, websites, educational conferences, video productions, and other communications.
    • Coordinate and/or conduct training on sensitivity and bias for NCBE staff, NCBE committees, and others.
    • Develop and oversee sensitivity and bias review panels, offer training to panelists, and conduct reviews of items and item formats on a periodic basis.
    • Serve as part of the team working to implement the next generation of the bar exam to help identify and address fairness and inclusion issues across all implementation activities.
    • Engage in outreach efforts to all NCBE stakeholders, including jurisdiction admissions staff, boards, and courts, as well as the legal education community.
    • Support NCBE’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which strives to enhance the participation and performance of historically disadvantaged groups with respect to legal education, bar passage, and bar admissions.
    • Conduct literature reviews and original research to support all of the foregoing responsibilities listed here, and/or to support work activities in collaboration with coworkers.
    • Work with NCBE staff and volunteers to actively support diversity, inclusion, and fairness in all aspects of NCBE’s work.
    • Carry out required administrative responsibilities and other duties as assigned.
    • Participate in professional conferences, such as AALS, NCME, AERA, ATP, etc.

    Qualifications
    • J.D., or Ph.D. in Education, Psychology, Sociology, or related field.
    • A minimum of three years of professional experience successfully developing, implementing, and assessing diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives is preferred.
    • An awareness of and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.
    • Demonstrated research and quantitative skills, ideally in social science or educational research. Familiarity with psychometric research and concepts is preferred but not required.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including strong public speaking skills.
    • Relocation to Madison, Wisconsin, is not required, but some on-site presence will be necessary.
