    Judicial Assistant – Court of Appeals – District IV
    If you have experience supporting attorneys and other legal staff or are a recent law school graduate, we encourage you to apply for the Judicial Assistant position with the Court of Appeals – District IV. This position will serve under the Honorable JoAnne F. Kloppenburg and is expected to start August 1, 2020.

    The Court of Appeals – District IV is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Judicial Assistant. The primary function of the Court of Appeals is to correct errors that occurred at the circuit court level. The published opinions of the Court are binding precedent until overruled by the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court has recognized that the Court of Appeals has a "law defining and law development" function.

    LOCATION: Madison
    SALARY: $59,770 annually with a State of Wisconsin benefits package.
    CLASSIFICATION: Judicial Assistant

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    This position serves as a judicial assistant to a judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. The primary duties include: managing the office of the judge; overseeing the efficiency of the individual chambers; and establishing a filing, workflow, and tracking method that meets the individual needs of the judge. The Court of Appeals judicial assistant responsibilities include prioritizing work assignments effectively, coordinating the workflow throughout the chambers to final release status, assisting the chamber’s law clerk in the overall accuracy of the work product.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    Required: (1) Experience providing support to attorneys by preparing complaints, motions, subpoenas, orders, or other documents accurately and in proper format; (2) Experience verifying citations and statutory references contained in legal documents; (3) Experience using software applications and legal and non-legal databases to produce legal related reports and documents, conduct research, and develop tables of contents and indices to briefs.

    Preferred: (4) Knowledge of the Wisconsin legal system; (5) Education or training in Legal Assistance (e.g., Paralegal Associate Degree)
