    Legal Advisor – Wisconsin Court System

    The Director of State Courts’ Office of Court Operations has a full-time, unclassified position for a Legal Advisor to provide in-house legal research and advice for development and implementation of policies and procedures that impact Wisconsin’s circuit court operations.

    LOCATION: Madison
    SALARY: $75,000 to $82,000 annually with a State of Wisconsin benefits package. Salary will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    This position advises Judges and Wisconsin Court System staff on the interpretation of laws and rules. The selected individual will join a team of court operations policy and legal professionals in conducting in-depth legal, policy, and program analyses and research. Job duties include identifying issues, researching and addressing inquiries, evaluating and interpreting legal and policy information for administrative, judicial and other circuit court staff on a broad range of issues. Additional assignments include work with court system committees, assuring the circuit court’s compliance with applicable state and federal laws and drafting of petitions, procedures, administrative bulletins and other organizational communications.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required: (1) Licensed to practice law in Wisconsin; (2) Experience conducting in-depth legal, policy, and program analyses and research; (3) Experience presenting legal information to diverse audiences; (4) Experience in public policy management, program development, and implementation.

    Preferred: (5) Work experience as an attorney or advanced policy analyst in a court system or related public administration setting; (6) Experience practicing criminal law.
