    Vice President – Legal – Wisconsin Bankers Association
    The Vice President - Legal oversees an array of member service functions including: banking compliance interpretation for members, legislative policy and regulatory analysis, contract review and drafting, writing, training, and other defined legal work in select general business areas of the trade association. The position is responsible for budgeting, managing personnel, and ensuring that the strategic goals and objectives for the legal area are met.

    This position leads the legal areas of the advocacy team to, among other things, help implement and shape WBA’s legal, regulatory, and policy positions on banking issues, including briefs for the courts issues affecting the banking industry.

    The person is required to have:
    • Juris Doctor degree
    • State Bar of Wisconsin member
    • Minimum of seven years of experience
    • Strong understanding of state and federal banking law
    • Strong analytical ability to research and develop opinions on banking regulation and compliance
    • Strong attention to detail, organization skills and readily accepts new responsibilities and adapts well to changes in procedures
    • Ability to provide high-quality service to a variety of member needs
    • Proactive approach to problem solving

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Manage and direct the overall operation of the legal areas of WBA advocacy.
    • Research and provide legal and compliance support to the membership by responding to questions through the WBA Legal Call Information Program.
    • Write, edit, and publish compliance articles and bulletins.
    • Represent the Association in dealings with state and federal banking regulators and other government agencies.
    • Develop relationships with other state banking associations to create strategic alliances and coordinate compliance activities.
    • Provide input on the content and scope of educational programs offered by the Association.
    • Train members and WBA staff on legal and compliance topics.
    • Provide research, legislative, and regulatory analysis to the advocacy areas of the association.
    • Review all requests for Association participation in litigation as an amicus curiae and present recommendations in this regard to the Board of Directors.
    • Coordinate legal affairs of the Association with the Association’s outside Counsel.

    In addition, the ideal candidate would have these preferred skills:
    • Demonstrated legal writing & research skills
    • Experience working for a bank/financial institution
    • Work experience in both private and public sectors
    • Structural understanding of a 501(c)(6) non-profit trade association
    • Experience managing volunteers
