He concentrates in business litigation, focusing on breach of contract and business tort cases and real estate, shareholder, and debtor-creditor disputes. Ilana Spector, Chicago-Kent 2010, has joined the firm as an associate and concentrates on healthcare regulatory and related matters. She previously practiced at a national law firm in Chicago and Milwaukee, where she also focused on healthcare law.

    J. William Boucher, U.W. 2015, has joined O’Neil, Cannon, Hollman, DeJong & Laing S.C., Milwaukee, with the corporate practice group and focuses on tax implications of transactions.

    Timothy D. Edwards, Wayne State 1989, principal with the Edwards Law Group, Madison, has been admitted to practice law in Florida. He is also licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and Arizona.

    Daniel FinertyDaniel Finerty, Marquette 1998, has been promoted to equity partner at Lindner & Marsack, Milwaukee. He represents and counsels Wisconsin counties, cities, school districts, Native American tribes, tribe-owned businesses, and private sector employers in labor and employment litigation and compliance matters, in senior living, healthcare, manufacturing, food manufacturing, hospitality, retail, transportation, construction, commercial laundry, dry cleaning, and other industries.

    Stacy C. Gerber WardStacy C. Gerber Ward, Notre Dame 1993, has joinedvon Briesen & Roper s.c., Milwaukeeas a shareholder and leads the firm’s new government enforcement and corporate investigations section, which handles civil, criminal, and administration investigations, litigation, enforcement actions, and settlements. Gerber Ward served as an Assistant United States Attorney for more than 14 years and was most recently the deputy chief of the civil division for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, where she represented the government in significant civil enforcement matters.

John McCauley, Pennsylvania 2007, practices complex commercial, intellectual property, and appellate litigation.

    Ashley Hawley, U.W. 2010 cum laude, has joined Ruder Ware, Wausau.She works closely with individuals and families to design plans customized to their life situations, goals, and values, including drafting wills, trusts, and other planning documents as well as formation of entities for estate planning and business purposes, asset protection, and gifting and transfers of assets.

    Heather B. Kroencke has become a partner with Zanck, Coen, Wright & Saladin P.C., Crystal Lake, Ill.Her practice is focused on all aspects of estate planningand administration, from structuring personalized estate plansfor families and individuals to the administration of trust and probate estates. She also handles property tax assessment appeals and general real estate matters.

    Brenden M. LeibBrenden M. Leib, Marquette 2015, has joined Leib Knott Gaynor LLC, Milwaukee, as a litigation and appellate associate concentrating in health care, insurance coverage, and governmental litigation. The firms’ other members are Samuel Leib, Southwestern 1977, Douglas Knott, Iowa 1990, Sean Gaynor, Marquette 2001, Brent Simerson, Marquette 2010, and Ryan Wiesner, Marquette 2012.

    Five attorneys have been promoted to shareholder at Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c.

    Thomas M. Burnett, Notre Dame 2009, is in the litigation practice in the Milwaukee office and represents business owners, insurers, actuaries, and financial institutions as well as product manufacturers, developers, and distributors. He concentrates on product distribution and franchise litigation, false advertising and unfair competition, antitrust and trade regulation, and insurance and financial services litigation matters. Megan K. Jackson, Indiana-Bloomington 2007, is in the employee benefits practice and institutional investor services and public plans subgroups in the Madison office and works with benefits providers, including domestic and global pension funds. She provides legal counsel on a range of issues relevant to institutional investors, including fiduciary duties, legal authority, and corporate governance issues.

    Travis R. Mueller, U.W. 2009, is with the corporate law practice in the Milwaukee office and focuses on corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial contracting. He has experience representing both buyers and sellers of companies as well as early-stage companies receiving investments and investors in new companies. Caitlyn B. Sikorski, DePaul 2007, is in the trusts and estates practice in the Milwaukee and Chicago offices and focuses on litigation, including breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duty, undue influence, and significant construction and reformation matters. She is also experienced in prenuptial and marital property agreements, succession planning, guardianship, gift and generation-skipping tax issues, and general estate, tax, and wealth transfer planning.

    Guy R. Temple, Northwestern 2011, is with the litigation practice in the Milwaukee and Chicago offices and represents business owners, product manufacturers, developers, and distributors with issues related to product distribution, franchising, and supply chain disputes. His practice also includes representing individual and corporate fiduciaries in trust, estate, and probate disputes.

    Nicole S. SchramNicole S. Schram, Colorado 2005, has joined Haley Palmersheim S.C., Middleton, concentrating in business transactions, real estate, estate planning, and immigration law. She was previously general counsel for Century 21 Affiliated, overseeing legal work in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. She also practiced for eight years in Denver.

    Sandy Swartzberg, U.W. 1977, has joined Treblaw LLC, Milwaukee. His business law practice incudes closely held businesses, mergers and acquisitions, business structures, business agreements, and estate planning for family-owned enterprises. He previously was with Weiss Berzowski Brady LLP.

    Jerilyn JacobsRyan J. MoertelBryan T. SymesJerilyn Jacobs, Cornell 1998, Ryan J. Moertel, U.W. 2015, and Bryan T. Symes, Chicago-Kent 2004, have joined Weld Riley S.C., Eau Claire. Jacobs concentrates in employer-side litigation in employment and labor-related matters, including discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, noncompetition, and collective bargaining agreement claims. She previously practiced in the Milwaukee area. Moertel focuses on criminal defense and previously did criminal defense work in the Eau Claire area. Symes is a shareholder with the labor and employment section and has experience in employment law and litigation, labor relations, and alternative dispute resolution.

    Daniel Lennington, Valparaiso 2001, and Lane Ruhland, U.W. 2013, have become members of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) senior leadership team. Lennington is senior counsel and previously was a DOJ deputy solicitor general. Ruhland is director of government affairs and previously was in private practice, concentrating in campaign finance, compliance, election law, and business administration.

    Mergers, Relocations, New Offices

    Benson, Kerrane, Storz & Nelson P.C., a construction-defect firm, has opened offices in Milwaukee and Madison, led by Alex Nelson, Colorado 2003.

    Shawn R. Hillmann has founded BadgerLaw LLC, 10437 Innovation Dr., Suite 311, Wauwatosa, and continues his practice in litigation, default banking, and compliance services.

    Michael C. Holy, Marquette 1994, has opened Holy & Schultz LLC, 1245 E. Diehl Rd., Suite 105, Naperville, Ill. The firm concentrates in healthcare, general litigation, and employment law.

    The Hon. David L. Borowski, Marquette 1991, has been appointed to the board of trustees for Catholic Charities of Southeastern Wisconsin. He is presiding judge of the civil-probate division of the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

    Boyle Fredrickson, a full-service intellectual property law firm, has named a new slate of officers to its board. Past president Peter Stomma, Drake 1991, stepped down; Adam Brookman, George Washington 1987, is president; Kirk Deheck, Marquette 2003, is vice president; and Mike Griggs, U.W. 2003, is secretary. Jim Boyle, Marquette 1984, a firm founder, continues on the board as treasurer. Brookman, Deheck, Griggs, and Boyle are shareholders with experience in all facets of intellectual property law, including litigation and the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications both domestically and abroad.

    John R. Decker, Marquette 1977, has been elected president of the Wisconsin Council for Local History and to membership on the Board of Curators of the Wisconsin Historical Society. Decker, Evansville, served as president of the State Bar of Wisconsin from 1990 to 1991.

    Michael Gratz, U.W. 1994, was selected to the St. Paul University Catholic Foundation board, which is overseeing the building of a new church and student center located on Library Mall on the U.W.-Madison campus. He is a founding shareholder of the intellectual property law firm of Boyle Fredrickson S.C., Milwaukee.

    Joseph Miotke, Marquette 1999 magna cum laude, has been appointed to the Public Defender Board by Gov. Scott Walker. He focuses on intellectual property at DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., Brookfield.
