The Hon. R. Thomas Cane, Marquette 1964, LL.M. Virginia, and
Sheila Sullivan, U.W. 2004 magna cum laude, are the 2005
recipients of the Hon. Charles Dunn Author Award, presented annually by
the State Bar Communications Committee. Cane is chief judge of the
Wisconsin Court of Appeals and Sullivan is a former law clerk for Judge
Cane. They are being honored for two Wisconsin Lawyer articles
that they coauthored, "The Future of the Economic Loss Doctrine in
Wisconsin," (May 2005) and "More Litigation to Come: Exceptions to the
Economic Loss Doctrine," (Nov. 2005).
The Dunn award, named after Wisconsin's first chief justice,
recognizes writing excellence in Wisconsin Lawyer articles. The
award will be presented at the Volunteer Lawyers Recognition program,
held during the State Bar's annual convention, on May 3, 5:30 p.m. to
7:30 p.m.
The following attorneys received certificates of commendation for
articles printed in the Wisconsin Lawyer in 2005: Shirley Ann
Wiegand, Kentucky 1983, authored "Corporate Chaos: Replacing Home
Rule with Foreign Law" (April 2005). She is a professor at Marquette
University Law School, Milwaukee. Carl J. Rasmussen, U.W. 1982,
and Susan L. Collins, U.W. 1995, coauthored "Wisconsin
Constitutional Amendment to Define Marriage: The Legal Context" (March
2005). They are with Boardman Suhr Curry & Field LLP, Madison.
