New Hires, Promotions, Partners

Jenna L. Arntson, Hamline 2005, has joined Horizons Law Group LLC, Wauwatosa, as an associate and focuses on family law and consumer bankruptcy. She previously practiced in Minnesota.

Greg J. Babcock, Marquette 2006, has joined Wanezek & Jaekels S.C., Green Bay, as an associate and concentrates on family law, personal injury, and general civil litigation.

Stephen Bablitch, U.W. 1979, has been named senior vice president and secretary at Aurora Health Care, Milwaukee, and is responsible for governance, compliance, communications, legal services, and government affairs.

Patrick J. Bodden, Marquette 2009, has joined the Wausau office of Ruder Ware LLSC and focuses on closely held businesses, estate planning, and asset protection.

Susan Caldwell, U.W. 2003, has been promoted to vice president, medical management and regulatory services, at Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corp., Madison. She previously was vice president, regulatory services.

Ángel L. Casiano, Catholic Univ. 2008 magna cum laude, has joined the Madison office of DeWitt Ross & Stevens SC as an associate and focuses on patent drafting and prosecution for electrical and mechanical technologies. He previously was with another firm in Madison.

Three attorneys have been appointed Dane County Circuit Court judges by Gov. Jim Doyle. The Hon. Peter Anderson, Harvard 1980, previously was an administrative law judge with the Wisconsin Division of Hearings and Appeals. The Hon. Nick
McNamara, U.W. 1993, previously was in private practice in Madison. The Hon. Amy R. Smith, U.W. 1989, previously was a Dane County assistant district attorney.

Mike Koehler, U.W. 2000, has joined the College of Business at Butler University, Indianapolis, as an assistant professor of business law and focuses on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. He previously was senior counsel with Foley & Lardner LLP, Milwaukee.

Neal Schall Krokosky, U.W. 2009, has joined Otjen, Van Ert & Weir S.C., Milwaukee, and concentrates in general liability defense.

Nathan T. Leong, U.W. 2009, has joined Bell, Gierhart & Moore S.C., Madison, as an associate and focuses on business law, family law, real estate, and tax planning.

Renee Metzler, Marquette 2009, has joined Absolute Technology Law Group LLC, Milwaukee, and focuses in patent prosecution matters.

Gail L. Brown, Marquette 1999, and Terese M. Halfmann, Marquette 1985, have joined Pitman, Kyle & Sicula S.C., as members of the nursing home neglect practice. Brown and Halfmann also are registered nurses.

The Hon. Thomas Sazama, Marquette 1973, has joined Weld, Riley, Prenn & Ricci S.C., Eau Claire, as of counsel and focuses on corporate, regulatory, and litigation matters. He previously was a Chippewa County circuit court judge.

Jussi P. Snellman, Michigan 1992, has been promoted to shareholder in the Madison office of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren s.c. and continues his work with the firm’s employee benefits, business law, and international practices.

Elizabeth R. Sundquist, Marquette 2003, has joined McGaughey Bridges Dunlap PLLC, Bellevue, Wash., and concentrates on insurance defense, appellate litigation, and family law. She previously was a solo practitioner in Pewaukee.

Daniel S. Welytok, U.W. 1987, has joined von Briesen & Roper s.c., Milwaukee, as a shareholder and focuses on business, tax, capital structuring, financing, information technology, mergers and acquisitions, employee benefits, and nonprofit issues.

Dean R. Zakos, Marquette 1979, has joined Dempsey, Williamson, Kelly & Hertel LLP, Oshkosh, as of counsel in the business practice group. He previously was with Modine Manufacturing Co., Racine.

Lora L. Zimmer, Yale 2003, has been promoted to partner in the Appleton office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP and continues to focus on health care law and insurance services.

Broderick Law Office has relocated to 6409 Odana Rd., Suite B, Madison, and continues its focus on personal injury, wrongful death, and general litigation.

Steven D. Hitzeman, Marquette 1988, has formed Hitzeman Law LLC, 1543 Park Pl., Suite 300, Green Bay, and focuses on personal injury, worker’s compensation, and Social Security disability cases. He previously was a shareholder with Stellpflug Law, De Pere.

Edward S. Marion, U.W. 1974, has formed Edward S. Marion
Attorney-at-Law LLC, Madison, and focuses on energy, telecommunications, general administrative law, and civil appeals. He formerly was general counsel and an administrative law judge for the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.

Scott A. Wales, Miami 1987, has relocated Law Offices of Scott A. Wales LLC to 839 N. Jefferson St., Suite 300, Milwaukee, and continues to focus on criminal defense matters in Wisconsin and Illinois state and federal courts.

Appointments, Elections

Nate Cade, Michigan 1996, has been appointed cochair of the Products Liability Committee of the ABA’s Litigation Section. He is a partner in the Milwaukee office of Michael Best & Friedrich LLP and focuses on products liability claims with the litigation practice group.

Stan Davis, George Washington 1998, has been elected president of the Wisconsin Technical College System board and also has joined the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents. He is cochair of the government relations group at Axley Brynelson LLP, Madison.

Richard J. Podell, U.W. 1969, has been named chair of the ABA Individual Rights Section. He is president of Richard J. Podell & Associates, Milwaukee, a family law firm.

Isaac J. Roang, Georgetown 2007, has been elected vice president of the Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra board and is chair of the board’s governance committee. He is with the real estate group in the Milwaukee office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

Thomas N. Shorter, Northeastern 1996, has been elected to the State Bar Health Law Section board. He is a shareholder and member of the health care practice in the Madison office of Godfrey & Kahn S.C.

The Hon. James A. Wynn Jr., Marquette 1979, has been elected vice president of the Uniform Law Commission, which drafts and promotes enactment of uniform laws. He is on the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

Authors, Speakers

Dennis Boyer, West Virginia 1978, edited the Interactivity Foundation’s discussion report, The Future of Regulation, after facilitating two 12-month-long discussion panels in Wisconsin.

Awards, Degrees, Honors

Matthew D. Fortney, Northwestern 2006 magna cum laude, has become a LEED-certified accredited professional. He is a member of the clean energy, climate change, and sustainability industry group and cochair of the real estate group’s alternative energy subgroup in the Madison office of Quarles & Brady LLP.

Hupy and Abraham S.C., Milwaukee, received an award from Accident Scene Management and Rescue Riders in recognition of the firm’s dedication to reducing injuries and fatalities among motorcyclists.

Donna M. Jones, U.W. 1978, has been included in Feminists Who Changed America: 1963-1975 (University of Illinois Press). She is on the State Bar Board of Governors and the Nonresident Lawyers Division board.

Jennifer O’Neill, William Mitchell 1994, has been certified as an elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. She is with Lommen, Abdo, Cole, King & Stageberg P.A., Hudson.

Jacob T. Schmidt, Marquette 2004, earned an LL.M. in taxation, with distinction, from the Georgetown University Law Center. He is a manager with the international tax group at Deloitte Tax LLP, Washington, D.C.

John B. Stadler, U.W. 1988, earned an M.S. in nursing from Marquette University and a clinical-nurse-leader designation. He is with the quality management department at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio.
