Levine Looks Beyond State Bar Election

I want to express my appreciation to everyone who voted in this year's presidential election and to everyone involved in the election process. Bar members showed that, if you provide them with issues, they will vote. Bar staff were, as always, very helpful and professional. And Dean Dietrich and Jeff George were kind and gracious.

The election results seem to indicate that Wisconsin lawyers want some important changes in the direction of the Bar and the legal profession, and over the next three years [as president-elect, president, and past president] I'll do my best to help begin those changes. I look forward to working with governors, committee members, and Bar staff to accomplish those goals we agree on, to reach compromise where we disagree, and to come up with imaginative solutions to new problems.

Change is slow, but it has to begin with a first step and with lots of hard work by many people. I hope that many of you who were heartened by the results of this year's election will decide to get involved with the Bar - serve on a State Bar committee, run for the Board of Governors, make the many, small, anonymous contributions that are necessary for any organization to work. And, as the Hues Corporation once advised: When it needs rocking, "Rock the Boat." Take risks. As my election shows, anything is possible - even a voluntary bar.

Please feel free to write, call, or email with any concerns, complaints or compliments about what the Bar is doing, suggestions, and committee assignments you are interested in [for fiscal year 2007, which begins July 1, 2006]. Thanks to everyone.
