Catherine Mode Eastham, NYU 1985, has been appointed

Christine Harrington, Marquette 2001 summa cum
laude, has joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP in its
Greenville, S.C. office, practicing in products liability and business

honored Harrington with its Outstanding Law Student Award.
Steven J. Hartung, U.W. 1987, has become vice

Marty R. Howard, Iowa 1988, has become vice

Elizabeth (Liz) Severson, Emory 1980, have opened

rights litigation. Clausen and Severson formerly practiced insurance
defense as in-house counsel. Prior to that Clausen served as a
prosecutor in Wood County, and Severson served as a prosecutor in

William W. Brash III, Marquette 1978, was appointed
to replace the late Stanley A. Miller as a Milwaukee County Circuit
Court Judge by Gov. McCallum.
Michael R. Christopher, U.W. 1972, has been elected
to a three-year term on the Downtown Madison Inc. board of directors.
Christopher practices with DeWitt Ross & Stevens S.C., Madison,
focusing on land use matters, zoning, annexation, and government
relations issues.

Firm S.C., Milwaukee, has been elected treasurer for the National
Association of Retail Collection Attorneys (NARCA); he will serve a
two-year term on the board of directors. NARCA is a professional
organization of attorneys servicing the credit granting community.
Stephen Lesavich, U.W. 1995, with McDonnell,
Boehnen, Hulbert & Berghoff, Chicago, Ill., was elected president of
the International Society of Law and Technology.
Donald M. Lieb, U.W. 1974, with Otjen, Van Ert, Lieb
& Weir S.C., Milwaukee, was elected president of the board of
directors of the Golf Founda-tion of Wisconsin. The foundation is an
umbrella organization formed by many of the state's golf-related groups,
whose mission is to preserve and promote golf in Wisconsin. With its
national partner, The First Tee, the foundation operates five learning
centers throughout the state, including one in Milwaukee, for children
and others new to the game.
Truman Q. McNulty, Marquette 1948, of Whyte
Hirschboeck Dudek S.C., was elected to the Council of the American Bar,
Senior Lawyers Division, which plans and directs administration of 21
substantive law committees, book publishing, and special educational
programs for the 10,100 division members.
Robert A. Mich Jr., U.W. 1996, has been reappointed
as legal counsel for the Wisconsin Jaycees. He is a senior associate
with Kay & Andersen S.C., Madison, practicing primarily in civil
litigation, personal injury, construction law, and general business
law.
Joseph W. Skupniewitz, U.W. 1966, clerk of court of
the Western District of Wisconsin, has been reappointed as part-time
U.S. magistrate judge for the Western District of Wisconsin. Skupniewitz
has been clerk of court since 1971 and a part-time U.S. magistrate judge
since 1972.
David Wambach, Marquette 1985, was appointed to the
Wisconsin Pardon Board by Gov. McCallum. He is with the Jefferson County
District Attorney's Office.
Charles Herro, U.W. 1949, and Harry
Rummel, Marquette 1946, were elected copresidents of the West
of the Bark River Bar Association, a long-standing informal association
of practitioners in northern and western Waukesha County.
David A. Westrup, Michigan 1989, was appointed vice

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has appointed Scott
Roberts, U.W. 1979, to the Board of Administrative Oversight
(BAO). Roberts is a former Portage County assistant district attorney,
now in private practice. He also has been a prosecutor in Rock and Rusk
counties, and a public defender in Rock and Milwaukee counties. Roberts
replaces Janesville attorney John W. Holzhuter, who
resigned from the BAO.
The court has made 14 appointments to the district investigative
committees that are part of the lawyer regulation system.
District 7 (Adams, Columbia, Juneau, Marquette, Portage, Sauk,
Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood counties): Ellen M. Dahl,
who owns and manages rental property in the Wisconsin Rapids area. Dahl
and her husband operated Dahl's Floral Gardens for 30 years.

director of human resources and risk management for the city of La

Ph.D., a psychologist in private practice in Madison, and a mediator for

Bunge, Ph.D., a retired U.W. professor, who was granted

The court has reappointed James D. Friedman, Notre Dame
1972, to serve on the Preliminary Review Committee of the lawyer

Lawrence G. Albrecht, Valparaiso 1973, shareholder
of First, Blondis, Albrecht, Bangert & Novotnak s.c., recently
presented a series of lectures on clinical law education and human
rights law on behalf of the American Bar Association CEELI Program to
the faculty of law and European Law Students Association at the
University of Belgrade, the University of NoviSad, and Nis
University.
Ross Kodner, Marquette 1986, is co-author of the ABA
Law Practice Management Section's "Flying Solo, 3rd Edition," a
comprehensive start-up guide for lawyers considering solo practice. He
also completed and delivered more than 150 CLE presentations on legal
technology topics. He also assisted the New York State Bar Association

Robert J. Lightfoot II, Hamline 1995, and
Diane M. Pica, U.W. 1988, both of Murphy & Desmond
S.C., Lawyers, Madison, spoke at the American Health Lawyers Association
annual conference in New Orleans, on "surveying in the areas of
nutrition, hydration, and activities."
Michael J. Remington, U.W. 1973, testified before
the Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet, and Intellectual Property of
the Committee on the Judiciary, U.S. House of Represent-atives, on the
"operations of the judicial misconduct statutes." The oversight hearing
explored a number of subjects ranging from judicial accountability to

Awards, Degrees, Honors
Michael Bernstein, Univ. of Pacific McGeorge 1985,
has been elected to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin's board of
directors. The foundation grants wishes for children with
life-threatening illnesses. Bernstein is senior vice president of
acquisitions and strategic planning for Cobalt Corp., Waukesha, and is
president of Compcare Health Services Insurance Co., a Cobalt
subsidiary.
John Cabaniss, Wayne State 1981, of the Law Office
of John C. Cabaniss, and Kent I. Carnell, U.W. 1970,
with Lawton & Cates S.C., Madison, have achieved board certification
as a civil trial advocate through the National Board of Trial
Advocacy.
William T. Curran, Marquette 1975, with Curran,
Hollenbeck & Orton S.C., Mauston, was admitted to fellowship in the
American College of Trial Lawyers.
William J. Domina, U.W. 1985, was awarded the 2001
Lynn Smith Award for excellence in tobacco control from the American
Cancer Society (ACS), Midwest Division. Domina was recognized as one of
the 25 leaders in tobacco control in Wisconsin for the 25th anniversary
of the ACS Great American Smokeout, due to his work on the Wisconsin
Tobacco Control Board, as a special liaison between the ACS and the
Wisconsin Attorney General's Office during the tobacco litigation in
Wisconsin, and as the president of the Waukesha School Board. He is a
member of the State Bar's board of governors.
Gerardo H. Gonzalez, U.W. 1988, managing partner of
Gonzalez, Saggio & Harlan L.L.P., has been named a member of the
national Product Liability Advisory Council, a nonprofit corporation
that monitors legal developments in product liability, develops
positions on related issues, and files amicus briefs to advocate its
positions. Gonzalez directs his firm's litigation practice.

adoption mediators by the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. Hayes
is a shareholder with The Schroeder Group S.C., Waukesha. Schoenbohm is
a partner with Schoenbohm & Schoenbohm, Appleton.
Hon. Andrew L. Somers Jr., NYU 1960, was presented
the Dan O'Kennedy award for his outstanding efforts for peace and
justice in Ireland by the Irish American Unity Conference at its
convention in Washington, D.C. Judge Somers has spent the last 15 years
investigating, reporting, and speaking about human rights abuses in
Northern Ireland and the United Kingdom. He is the former Fitchburg city
judge and was a long-time Wisconsin assistant attorney general.
Carlton D. Stansbury, Iowa 1990 with distinction,
has completed a 25-hour divorce mediation training sponsored by the U.W.
He is expanding his practice to include divorce mediation. He continues
practicing divorce, paternity, appeals, arbitration, and collaborative
law. He is a shareholder with Burbach & Stansbury S.C.,
Milwaukee.
James D. Sweet, U.W. 1978, a shareholder with Murphy
& Desmond S.C. Lawyers, Madison, served as moderator for the
American Bankruptcy Institute Winter Leadership Conference in Carlsbad,
Calif. Rebecca R. DeMarb, U.W. 1997, an associate with
the firm, has become a member of the United Way Rosenberry Society.
Robert A. Teper, Marquette 1959, was honored by the
Metropolitan Builders Association as associate of the year, the highest
honor bestowed on an associate member of the organization. Teper joined
the organization in 1980 and has served as its chief legal counsel. He
is active on the association's developers council, by-laws review task
force, government affairs committee, construction arbitration board, and
associate advisory board. Teper is a partner with Michael Best &
Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee.

Randy S. Nelson, of Weiss Berzowski Brady LLP, was
featured in the Tax & Estate Planning Focus issue of the Small
Business Times. The publication extensively quoted Nelson, a recognized
authority in tax & estate planning, regarding his insights into the
Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 and its many
effects on estate planning.
Pro Bono, Public Service
Claire Weber, Indiana 1976, recently returned from
volunteering for a year with the American Bar Association Central and
East European Law Initiatives program (ABA/CEELI), which provides former
Soviet countries with the technical assistance of American lawyers to
help the countries move toward the rule of law. Weber was the only
ABA/CEELI American lawyer in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, where
her work included providing assistance to Parliament and its staff,
institution building projects with NGOs, and development of law student
organizations and advocacy training. She also provided assistance to the
parliaments of Slovakia and Tajikistan and participated in ABA/CEELI
projects in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
