    Toss Your Hat in the Ring – Run for a 2014 State Bar Leadership Position

When you get involved, you help shape the future of your Bar and your profession. Please consider contributing your time and expertise as an officer or Board of Governors representative.

    State Bar Officers

    The State Bar will elect a president-elect, a secretary, and a Judicial Council representative in 2014. Members wishing to be considered for one of these offices should send a letter of interest to jmarks@wisbar.org or mail to Jan Marks, State Bar of Wisconsin, P.O. Box 7158, Madison, WI 53707-7158, by Oct. 15.

    The State Bar Nomination Committee, which will be appointed at the Sept. 27-28 Board of Governors meeting, will announce its slate of candidates by Dec. 15.

    State Bar members also can make officer nominations by filing a petition signed by 100 active Bar members with the State Bar by Feb. 3, 2014. For an officer petition, contact Jan Marks at (608) 250-6106, or (800) 444-9404, ext. 6106.

    Board of Governors

    Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 16 will elect governors in 2014. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects five; District 6 (Waukesha) elects 2; District 9 (Dane) elects four; and all other districts elect one. The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.

    To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition signed by 10 active members in their district at the State Bar by March 3, 2014. To receive a petition, visit Leadership Opportunities page or contact Marks.

    Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 11, 2014, and must be returned by April 25, 2014. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2014.
