A Government Lawyer’s View: On Making Connections and Learning Practical Tips at the State Bar Annual Meeting & Conference

In a recent Government Lawyers Division newsletter, Laura M. Varriale, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, talked about her experiences at past Annual Meeting & Conferences. Varriale finds the Conferences a “valuable learning and networking opportunity. I always learn something new to assist me in my practice.”

The sessions at the Conference help her in unexpected ways – including a plenary session that helped her formulate her thoughts for an upcoming brief.

“I attended sessions about practical tips from the bench and public speaking primers. Recently, I realized I will have to broaden my skills. The refreshers at the Conference are really handy,” Varriale said.

And don't forget the best part: making connections, the chance to network and have fun, and renewing old friendships and making new acquaintances. “I meet unique people with diverse practices who become valuable contacts. I meet other government attorneys who I touch base with on various issues,” Varriale said. “Making connections with lots of different attorneys across many different practices helps me immensely.”
