    Deisinger and Lyons Accept Bids for State Bar President-elect, Candidates for Treasurer and Judicial Council Announced

    Dec. 19, 2014 – Kevin J. Lyons, Davis & Kuelthau S.C., and Francis W. Deisinger, Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C., both of Milwaukee, have a​ccepted nominations to run for 2015 State Bar president-elect. The president-elect serves for one year before a one-year term as State Bar president. State Bar elections are held annually in April.

    The candidates for State Bar treasurer are Timothy J. O’Brien of Bakke Norman S.C. in New Richmond, and Paul G. Swanson of Steinhilber, Swanson, Mares, Marone & McDermott in Oshkosh. The treasurer serves a two-year term.

    Stevens Point attorney Thomas W. Bertz of Anderson, O'Brien, Bertz, Skrenes & Golla LLP, and Milwaukee attorney Joseph M. Russell of von Briesen & Roper S.C. are the candidates for Judicial Council. Judicial Council representatives serve three-year terms.

    The State Bar Nomination Committee, appointed by State Bar President Robert Gagan, was chaired by Michael Guerin, Milwaukee. Other committee members included: Hon. Richard Sankovitz, Milwaukee; Daniel D. Blinka, Milwaukee; Christy Brown, Milwaukee; and Byron Conway, Green Bay.

    “I was fortunate to work with a dedicated and deliberate nominating committee, and we are very pleased with the slate of candidates selected," said Guerin, former State Bar president (2005-06). 

    "All nominees were extremely receptive to volunteering for State Bar leadership, which demonstrates the willingness of our members to step forward when the profession calls. These candidates possess the leadership qualities to represent the interests of State Bar members while leading our legal profession into the future.”

    Interested in Running for the State Bar’s Board of Governors?

    The State Bar’s Board of Governors is the policymaking body of the organization, and is represented by 52 board members (governors) in 16 districts who serve two-year terms.

    This year, Districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 15 will elect governors. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects seven; District 9 (Dane) elects three; and all other districts elect one.

    To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition signed by 10 active members in their district at the State Bar by March 2, 2015.     Want to Run for Division Officer?

    The State Bar Divisions are selecting candidates to run in their 2015 elections. Eligible State Bar members interested in running for a division office can submit their interest to the contact person identified and within the timeframe below:

    Government Lawyers Division (GLD) members will choose a president-elect, secretary, treasurer, and three division directors to serve two-year terms. GLD members are asked to send resumes and letters of interest to the GLD Nominating Committee, attn: Annette Ashley, by Jan. 14, 2015.

    Nonresident Lawyers Division (NRLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term, and a secretary, treasurer, and five directors to serve two-year terms. Please note that only active and emeritus-status NRLD members can run for these positions. Interested NRLD members are asked to send resumes and letters of interest to the NRLD Nominating Committee, attn: Kris Wenzel, by Jan. 11, 2015.

    Senior Lawyers Division (SLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a secretary, treasurer and three directors to serve two-year terms. SLD members should write to the SLD Nominating Committee, attn.: Annette Ashley, by Jan. 7, 2015

    Young Lawyers Division (YLD) members will choose a president-elect for a one-year term and a treasurer and five directors to serve two-year terms. Interested YLD members are asked to send resumes and letters of interest to the YLD Nominating Committee, attn.: Kris Wenzel, by Feb. 1, 2015.

    Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 10, 2015, and must be returned by April 24, 2015. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2015.
