June 16, 2010 – A neighborhood association, a local charity, a community hospital. Despite their differences of purpose, these entities are likely to have one thing in common – they are probably nonprofit organizations. As such, they would have at least one common need – a need for basic, practical advice about those legal issues unique to nonprofit organizations.

To assist its members in responding to this need, the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1990 published A Guide for Wisconsin Nonprofit Organizations. The book was revised in 2001, and State Bar CLE Books is now pleased to publish the third edition. For 20 years, this volume has served as a guide for hundreds of Wisconsin’s attorneys representing nonprofit organizations; and it is our hope that this new edition will continue to assist Wisconsin’s attorneys in providing the highest quality representation to their clients.

Written for the lawyer and the nonlawyer alike, A Guide for Wisconsin Nonprofit Organizations is also an indispensable resource for the officers, directors, and staff of nonprofit organizations. It provides all the information necessary to establish and operate a nonprofit entity. It is the one publication that no nonprofit organization should be without.

A Guide for Wisconsin Nonprofit Organizations represents the collaborative effort, expertise, and wisdom of nearly 20 attorneys who have – over the years – researched, written, revised, and updated the invaluable information in this book, covering the following topics:

    • The Organizational Form

    • Tax Treatment

    • The Roles of Directors and Officers

    • Liability Issues and Insurance Needs

    • Employment-law Considerations

    • Employee Benefits

    • Regulation of Fund-raising

    • Regulatory Control of Lobbying and Political Activities

    • Merger, Conversion, Sale of Assets, and Dissolution

A Guide for Wisconsin Nonprofit Organizations is available to members for $185. Purchasers who subscribe to the State Bar of Wisconsin’s auto-supplementation service will receive future updates for 10 percent off the regular price. This title is also available to members in electronic format as part of the State Bar’s new online library, Books UnBoundTM for $159.
