    State Bar seeks candidates for officer and district governor in 2010 elections

    Oct. 7, 2009 – Member volunteers are the driving force behind State Bar programs and initiatives. When you get involved, you help shape the future of your Bar and your profession. As a State Bar volunteer, you serve a vital role in providing member and public services while gaining the personal and professional satisfaction of making a difference in the profession and the legal system. At the same time, you can gain one of the most valuable skills needed today ... leadership.

    Please consider contributing your time and expertise as an officer or Board of Governors representative.

    State Bar offices. The State Bar will elect a president-elect, a secretary, and a Judicial Council representative in 2010. Members wishing to be considered for one of these offices should send a letter of interest to Jan Marks, State Bar of Wisconsin, P.O. Box 7158, Madison, WI 53707-7158, by Nov. 6. The State Bar Nomination Committee will announce its slate of candidates by Dec. 15.

    State Bar members also can make officer nominations by filing a petition signed by 100 active Bar members with the State Bar by Feb. 1, 2010. For an officer petition, contact Jan Marks at (608) 250-6106, or (800) 444-9404, ext. 6106.

    district mapBoard of Governors. Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14, and 16 will elect governors in 2010. District 2 (Milwaukee) elects five; District 6 (Waukesha) elects two; District 9 (Dane) elects four; and all other districts elect one. The Board of Governors is the State Bar's policymaking body. Governors serve two-year terms.

    To be considered for a seat on the Board of Governors, members must submit a petition signed by 10 active members in their district at the State Bar by March 1, 2010. To receive a petition, visit Board of Governors or contact Marks.

    Election ballots will be mailed no later than April 9, 2010 and must be returned by April 23, 2010. Persons elected will take office July 1, 2010.
