Why do I need to log in?

We ask users to log in to complete financial transactions, to access Fastcase free legal research, to view and edit their profile information, to place classified ads, to access protected areas and documents, and to apply any relevant discounts.

Do I need to log in just to visit the site?

No. Much of WisBar is accessible without logging in. We only ask you to log in when you are in For Members areas, executing financial transactions -- buying a book or registering for a seminar -- accessing secure member information, or when you are changing information contained in your user profile.

How do I log in?

Click on Log In. The log in form will ask you for either an email address or membership number, and your password.

Email address is the address that is in your State Bar profile. If you are a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, and do not know which email address we have on file for you, go to our Lawyer Search and look up your record. If you are not a member of the State Bar and do not know the email address on your profile, contact Customer Service.

Membership number is your State Bar of Wisconsin membership number. If your membership number begins with a zero, such as 01020356, enter the number without the leading zero, like 1020356. If you are a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, and do not know your membership number, go to our Lawyer Directory and look up your record. If you are not a member of the State Bar and do not know your membership number, contact Customer Service.

If you know your email address, but do not know your password, you can reset it by using the Forgot your password? page. On the Forgot your password? page, you will need to enter the email address that is in your State Bar profile. Once you submit the form, an email message containing instructions on resetting your password will be sent to that address. If you do not get an email with these instructions, or do not have an email address on file, contact Customer Service.

How do I log out?

Click on the 'Your are logged in as {your name}. Select the Sign Out option from the drop down menu. You will be given a message window that you have logged out that you can close.

How do I change my password? Or what if I have forgotten my password?

After you log in, go to myStateBar and go to the Password change section to submit your password change.

If you know your email address, but do not know your password, you can reset it by using the Forgot your password? page. On the Forgot your password? page, you need to enter the email address that is in your State Bar profile. Once you submit the form, an email message containing instructions on resetting your password will be sent to that address. If you do not get an email with these instructions, or do not have an email address on file, contact Customer Service.

What if I prefer to use an email address that is different from the one in myStateBar profile?

After you've logged in, go to myProfile to change your email address. Note: this will change your email address for all future communication from us, as well as the Lawyer Directory listing for State Bar of Wisconsin members.

I just logged in, but when I try to continue, I'm told I have to log in.

If you log in and receive a message saying that you have logged in, but are then unable to access any content without being prompted to log in again, you may be using a firewall that is blocking the reading of cookies. To allow access to cookies, add WisBar.org as a trusted site.

This is also a known problem with AOL users. We suggest you use a different browser, such as Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.

Finally, users with satellite connections might experience similiar issues. We recommend using DSL or Cable internet connections.

Verify Internet Explorer Settings

  1. Go to Tools.
  2. Click on Internet Options
  3. Click on the Security tab.
  4. Select "Trusted Sites" (Green Checkmark).
  5. Click the "Sites" button.
  6. Uncheck the box at the bottom so that sites you add DO NOT require https.
  7. Add *.wisbar.org as a Trusted Site.
  8. Click OK to both Open dialogs.
  9. Close your browser and re-open it.

Verify Firefox Settings

  1. Go to Tools.
  2. Click on Options.
  3. Select the Privacy tab.
  4. Go to Cookies.
  5. Click the "Exceptions" button.
  6. Add *.wisbar.org
  7. Click Allow/Enable.
  8. Click OK to open dialog.
  9. Close your browser and re-open it.


If this doesn't work, you might have some sort of Anti-virus program running that is overriding your browser settings. Try lowering the security to allow cookies inside the anti-virus program.
