My first involvement with the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) came as a volunteer on a YLD Committee that led to me accepting an assignment to write an article for the YLD newsletter. The following spring, I ran for and was elected to the YLD Board. Since my election, I have served as a Board Member of the Young Lawyers Division and have chaired three YLD committees the legislative committee, nominations committee and governance committee. I have also served on the YLD leadership conference committee, law day committee, and public service committee. Through this service I have developed an intimate familiarity with the YLD Goals, projects and Agenda, as I continue to work to ensure that the Young Lawyer Division is responsive to its members’ needs and desires.

In addition to my time on the Young Lawyer Division Board, I was elected by the members of the YLD Board to serve as the District Representative to the ABA YLD where I represent young lawyers in Wisconsin and Minnesota to the American Bar Association Young Lawyer Division. Wisconsin State Bar Kevin Klein also appointed me to serve as a co-chair on the Publications Task Force on the Public Education Committee of the State Bar. These positions have provided me with even greater insight into the challenges and pitfalls that lawyers struggle with, particularly within our Division of younger lawyers. They have also provided an opportunity to learn the workings of the Wisconsin State Bar Association and the American Bar Association and discover ways in which the State Bar Young Lawyer Division can improve.

As the District 17 Representative to the ABA YLD I have been fortunate enough to attend a number of American Bar Association Conferences, where I am able to network with other young lawyers to build relationships, gather ideas and support, and harness the energy of the ABA YLD to reinvigorate the State Bar of Wisconsin. These networking opportunities include meeting and becoming friends with young lawyers who are or have served as president in their State’s young lawyers division, providing additional resources to learn from and lean on while leading the State Bar of Wisconsin YLD.

And finally, my experience with this Board has allowed me to build strong working relationships with lawyers across the State including my fellow board members and various members and leaders of the State Bar of Wisconsin. Attorneys with whom I am not only colleagues, but now consider friends.

While I am certain you are reviewing many qualified candidates, I ask that you consider my knowledge and experience of, and commitment to, the Young Lawyers Division and the State Bar of Wisconsin, and nominate me to the position of President-Elect. I look forward to using my experience to encourage more involvement from young lawyers in bar associations and to improve the programs and services provided by the Wisconsin Young Lawyers Division.
