National High School Mock Trial Raises Awareness of Legal
System and Instills Important Life Lessons
Madison, WI – Xavier High School (Appleton) is pulling
off a repeat, going to the National High School Mock Trial Championship
after winning the Wisconsin
High School Mock Trial Tournament for the second year in a row.
This year's national competition will be held in Albuquerque, New
Mexico from May 3 through 6. The goal of both the state and national
competitions is to promote an understanding and appreciation of our
nation's judicial system.
"We are all very proud of these outstanding young people
representing Wisconsin this year. We also appreciate all of the hard
work and support offered by their parents, teachers, and coaches,"
said Michael Rosenberg, chair of the State Bar's Public Education
Committee, which administers the Wisconsin program. "The
competition is special, because it gives hundreds of students the
opportunity to gain a deeper understanding and respect for the legal
system, while developing critical thinking and public speaking
skills."
The following Xavier students are participating in the competition:
-
Meggie Christopher
-
Jimmy Cameron
-
Grace Flaherty
-
Bridget Flaherty
-
Lucas Nelson
-

-

-

The team is coached by Xavier High School teacher coaches Kelli
McGreevey and Thrish Birr-Zimmer, and by attorney coaches Kevin
Lonergan, Daniel Flaherty, Mark Christopher, and Mitch Metropulos. The
school has a long history with the competition, also having competed
nationally in 2009.
