Joining a Section or Division? It’s Easy Now to Join Online

State Bar of Wisconsin sections and divisions offer networking, educational, mentoring, and leadership opportunities for members. Now, State Bar members can go online to join a section or division.

Sept. 7, 2016 – Thinking of joining a State Bar section or division? It’s easier than ever – nominal member fees for sections and divisions now can be paid online.

“It’s easy and secure,” says Jerry Vang, State Bar of Wisconsin Member Services manager.

What Are the State Bar Sections and Divisions?

The State Bar of Wisconsin’s 24 sections and four divisions allow lawyers to learn, network with, and support those who share practice areas or similar characteristics.

    Sections

From networking, to practice-specific insights, to helping influence legislation on key policy items, there is a State Bar section to fit members’ interests and needs. Sections allow lawyers of the same practice area to network together and support each other, to work together on issues that matter to them, and to share the latest updates and participate in practice-related CLE seminars and other professional development opportunities. Section membership includes access to newsletters, blogs, and/or email lists to facilitate information sharing.

Membership dues for the State Bar’s 24 sections range from $20 to $44 per year.

    Divisions

Divisions are organized under broad categories that reflect the location or experience of State Bar members – such as living and practicing outside Wisconsin, working in government, or being a recent law school graduate or a very experienced lawyer.

Membership in the Government, Nonresident, and Young Lawyers divisions is free for qualifying lawyers. There is a $30 annual fee for membership in the Senior Lawyers Division.

How to Join a Section or Division

    • Go online at wisbar.org/join and follow the instructions. Pay via a credit card. WisBar.org login is required.

    • Call Customer Service at (800) 728-7788 or (608) 257-3838.

    • Send letter of request, along with the appropriate dues amount (if applicable) to: State Bar of Wisconsin, P.O. Box 7158, Madison, WI 53707-7158

    Valuable Opportunities

Both sections and divisions offer valuable opportunities for lawyers in Wisconsin.

“Sections and divisions help members to connect with each other, learn from each other, mentor and advise each other, better their practice, and gain leadership experience,” Vang said.

State Bar members can now go online to join a section or division, in addition to calling State Bar Customer Service or mailing in a payment. Members also can join sections and divisions through the State Bar annual dues and Supreme Court assessment statement they receive each spring.
