    Aug. 5, 2015 – You’ve been dreaming about opening your own law practice. The State Bar of Wisconsin can help you make that dream a reality with concrete advice on running your practice. To set yourself up for success, you’re going to need a focused business plan.

    Learn how to make that business plan a successful reality. Attend the State Bar of Wisconsin PINNACLE® Business School for Lawyers (BSL) with two full-day seminars in August and September.

    The Second Annual Business School for Lawyers will help you adopt 21st-century law firm management principles in the areas of operations, financial management, marketing, and human resources. The seminars will give you the practical concepts and advice required for managing a practice.

    Designed to be attended together or separately depending on your needs, Business School for Lawyers is available live or via live webcast on Aug. 14 and Sept. 18, or afterward on select dates via webcast replay.

    BSL 201: Business Plans for Lawyers (Aug. 14)

    BSL 201: Business Plans for Lawyers is ideal for new graduates, experienced lawyers in the early planning stages of a firm, or current law firm owners wanting a refresher.

    BSL 201 will help you to fill in the gaps of your business plan, present your plan to investors, market your firm to get the clients you want, set goals and measure success, learn the ethics rules to follow when you own a law practice, and to understand the basics of financial management, operations, and human resources. Learn how to get clients while still meeting your professional obligations.

    BSL 201 earns 6 CLE and 1 EPR credits.

    BSL 301: Business Principles for a Successful Law Firm (Sept. 18)

    BSL 301: Business Principles for a Successful Law Firm will teach you how to expand your business and improve its efficiency.

    This seminar is perfect for BSL 201 attendees, current law firm owners, or lawyers who have experience managing a law firm. In this seminar, you will learn more advanced business school concepts related to operations, financial management, marketing, and human resources, and you will more deeply explore the ethical obligations of operating a law practice. Learn how to keep operating costs down and get the clients you want, all while fulfilling your professional obligations.

    BSL 301 earns 6.5 CLE and 1 EPR credits.

    How to Register for BSL 201 and BSL 301

    The member cost for each seminar is $219 for the live session and $249 for the live webcast and webcast replay sessions.

    BSL 201 takes place on Aug. 14 and BSL 301 on Sept. 18. You can choose to attend at the State Bar Center in Madison or via live webcast.

    The seminars are each available later via webcast replay on select dates in August, September, October, and November.

    And There’s More: The BSL Roundtable Series

    In addition to the two full-day seminars, the recently completed BSL Roundtable Series is a seven-part series of one-hour programs of 1 CLE credit that focus on specific topics related to law firm management.

    Can’t wait for the full-day programs, or want to explore the topics further? The series is available as CLE OnDemand seminars on entrepreneurship, financial management, marketing, human resources, business plans, and operations, as well as via webcast replays on the topic of law firm ethics.

    The cost for each one-hour program is $79 for members.

    The State Bar of Wisconsin developed the Business School for Lawyers initiative with the goal of providing a business school perspective on the operations, financial management, human resources, and marketing principles required for managing a law practice. With the assistance of focus groups and monthly Roundtable discussions in conjunction with the U.W. Law School Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic and the Wisconsin Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company, the Business School for Lawyers program offers business school concepts shared by law firm owners and professional law firm coaches.
