    June 17, 2015 – The 2015 Health, Labor, and Employment Law Institute, Aug. 20-21 at the Wilderness Hotel and Golf Resort in Wisconsin Dells, features three CLE tracks with more breakout sessions than ever before. Choose from the latest topics in health law, labor, and employment law, or a combination of the three for a customized experience.

    The Institute offers three CLE tracks, with sessions addressing topics such as LGBT issues in employment law, new NLRB election rules, and retail health clinic innovations. With so many options, you can customize your CLE to focus on the issues that are most important to you.

    Here’s a look at a few of the sessions you’ll find among the three CLE tracks:

    • Cops and Docs: Patient Privacy and Law Enforcement Access – David Perlman with the Wisconsin Department of Justice and Diane Welsch of von Briesen & Roper S.C. discuss the roles, responsibilities, legal authority, and objectives of law enforcement and health care providers in dealing with the numerous state and federal health privacy laws.

    • Employee Background Checks: Emerging Issues and Recommended Best Practices – While background checks help employers identify strong candidates, they are also can be a source of legal liability. Colin Good of Hawks Quindel S.C. and Robert Sholl of Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C. will break down the laws surrounding these checks, and how to avoid common mistakes and pitfalls.

    • Technology Used in the Practice of Law: What are Your Benefits and Risks? ­– The use of technology has become a big aspect of every practice, no matter the field. Dean Dietrich of Ruder Ware LLSC and Timothy Pierce of State Bar of Wisconsin explain the benefits and risks of common and emerging technologies and how they impact you and your practice.

    • Luncheon: Are You Happy? Would You Know It? Everyone wants to be happy, but what does that mean, exactly? Can lawyers ever truly be happy? Don’t miss this optional CLE luncheon featuring Dr. Gregory Van Rybroek, director of Mendota Mental Health Institute, who will discuss the factors that contribute to lawyer happiness and how to determine the meaning of happiness in lawyers’ careers and personal lives.

    CLE and EPR Credits

    The Institute’s CLE sessions will be submitted for general program approval by the Wisconsin Board of Bar Examiners for up to 12 CLE credits including up to 1 EPR credits. It will also be submitted for Minnesota CLE credit.
