    Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Volunteer Lawyers Project Offers Training for Pro Bono Lawyers

    Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Volunteer Lawyers Project invites lawyers to serve clients throughout Legal Action’s 39-county service area. Find out more about the Project’s free training opportunities for pro bono lawyers with Legal Action of Wisconsin.

    Sept 21, 2016 – Legal Action of Wisconsin’s Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) 2016 Fall Training series is just a few weeks away. The VLP offers free CLE-approved training to lawyers who commit to providing pro bono legal services to Legal Action of Wisconsin’s low-income clients.

    The VLP offers training to support lawyers who provide pro bono legal services to low-income residents in the 39 southernmost counties in Wisconsin.

    The annual series of seminars begins in Madison at the Goodman Community Center Oct. 18-20. The seminars are:

    • Enforcing Consumer Rights, Oct. 18;

    • Housing Law: Representing Clients in Money Claims, and Barriers to Employment: Resolving Records and Driver’s License Matters, Oct. 19; and

    • Unemployment Compensation, Oct. 20.

    The training continues in Milwaukee at Manpower Training Center, Nov. 9-11:

    • Bankruptcy, and Tax Law, Nov. 9;

    • Elder Law: Adult Guardianships, and Family Law: Basic Divorce, Nov. 10; and

    • Social Security Disability, Nov. 11.

    This is an especially important time to get involved in pro bono legal services while the number of people needing assistance increases and funding for legal services providers has been drastically reduced.

    More information about the VLP’s training program and the work of the Volunteer Lawyers Project is available on the VLP website, or by calling (414) 278-7722 or toll-free at (888) 278-0633.
