William Colby: Talk with your family and clients about end-of-life decisions

    William Colby

April 20, 2011 – William Colby represented the family of Nancy Cruzan in their controversial right-to-die case, the first such case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. Colby’s portrayal of the medical and legal sagas certain people go through when dying has been called moving and thought-provoking. Watch a brief video clip of his compelling 2009 State Bar Annual Convention presentation, The Right to Die in America: Its Constitutional, Legal, and Medical Impact.

The State Bar Elder and Health Law sections encourage awareness of these vital issues this month, coinciding with National Healthcare Decisions Day, April 16.

In recognition of the need for advance care planning directives, free electronic copies of the State Bar consumer guide, A Gift to Your Family: Planning Ahead for Future Health Needs are available to the public through April 25 at WisBar’s Lifeplanning: Planning Ahead for Future Health Needs web page.

Print copies, both English and Spanish, also are available to members for the discounted price of $1 each, plus tax and shipping, through April 30. To receive this special offer, call the State Bar at (800) 728-7788 or (608) 257-3838. Members should use code CP332 when ordering their copies.
