The State Bar's Diversity Outreach Committee, in
collaboration with the Wisconsin Chapter of the Association of Corporate
Counsel, will present the 2005 Annual Diversity in the Legal Profession
program on June 9 at the Italian Community Center in Milwaukee, 10 a.m.
- 1:30 p.m. In addition to the usual complimentary luncheon and keynote
speaker, this year's program includes a panel discussion focusing on
"Diversity, Your Practice, and the Bottom Line."
"This year we are excited to include a stellar panel of corporate
counsel and experts from Wisconsin's Department of Workforce
Development," says State Bar President Michelle Behnke. "The panel will
impart important information about how outside counsel is selected and
how corporations view diversity and community connections - adding a
substantive component to the annual networking luncheon."
Keynote speaker, Attorney N. Cornell Boggs III, vice president and
general counsel, Tyco Plastics and Adhesives, will share his experiences
with and perspective on diversity in the legal profession. Boggs' topic
is "Challenges and Opportunities: Living the Business Case for Diversity
in the Legal Profession."
Panelists include: Terry Ludeman, chief of the Office of Economic
Advisors in the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Madison;
Kim Rivera-Sanchez, vice president law, Rockwell Automation Inc.,
Mayfield Heights, Ohio; Robert Johnson, senior counsel, McDonald's
Corporation, Oak Brook, Ill.; Micabil Diaz Martinez, deputy secretary,
Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, Madison; and Michelle
Nettles, director - strategic projects, Miller Brewing Co., Milwaukee.
Behnke will moderate the discussion.
The Diversity Counsel Program's mission is to promote legal services
opportunities for minority and women attorneys within the legal
profession.
