    Inside the Bar February 2005: Bench/Bar Convention offers networking opportunities and member recognition events

    The State Bar Annual Convention and the Annual Judicial Conference, May 4 - 6 at the Midwest Airlines Center, Milwaukee, gives Wisconsin lawyers and judges only their fourth time since 1988 to jointly discuss major issues that confront them in administering justice and practicing law.

    Bench/Bar Convention offers networking opportunities and member recognition events

    The State Bar Annual Convention and the Annual Judicial Conference, May 4 - 6 at the Midwest Airlines Center, Milwaukee, gives Wisconsin lawyers and judges only their fourth time since 1988 to jointly discuss major issues that confront them in administering justice and practicing law.

    May 4. Chief Justice Shirley S. Abrahamson will join the Bar in honoring attorneys who were admitted to practice in 1955 at the Members' Recognition luncheon at 11:30 a.m. President Michelle Behnke will present the President's Award to recognize people who have served with distinction during her term. In addition, the Wisconsin Law Foundation's Goldberg Award and the Leonard L. Loeb Senior Lawyers Division Award will be presented. This is a ticketed event.

    Wednesday evening offers two receptions that are open to all attendees. Begin with the Bench and Bar reception, 5 - 6:30 p.m., the perfect opportunity for judges and lawyers to mingle in a relaxed social setting. The Judge of the Year and Lifetime Jurist awards will be presented.

    Wind down the evening at the Volunteer Lawyers Recognition Celebration, 6 - 8 p.m. Attorneys who have provided outstanding volunteer services are honored at this event

    May 5. Chief Justice Frank J. Williams of the Rhode Island Supreme Court will present "Abraham Lincoln and Civil Liberties: What We Can Learn from the 16th President," at the Bench and Bar Keynote Speaker luncheon, 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. This is a ticketed event.

    D. Michael Guerin of Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown, Milwaukee, will be sworn in as the 50th State Bar president at 5:15 p.m. All convention attendees are invited to attend a reception honoring the new president, to be held immediately after the swearing in.

    May 6. Talk about the business of lawyering at the Law Practice Section's 25th anniversary breakfast symposium, 7:15 - 8:20 a.m. This is a ticketed event.

    Tee times begin at 11 a.m. for the annual golf tournament at the Brown Deer Golf Course, home since 1994 to the PGA Tour's U.S. Bank Championship (formerly the Greater Milwaukee Open).
