Inside the Bar January 2005: WisLAP is on call for you 24 hours a day

The holidays are supposed to be a time full of joy, good cheer, and optimistic hopes for a new year, yet many people experience seasonal "blues." These blues can be caused by increased stress and fatigue, unrealistic expectations, over-commercialization, and the inability to be with one's family. Although many people become depressed during the holiday season, even more experience excessive stress and anxiety after the holidays have passed.

Confidential assistance for lawyers, law students, and their families

    Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Program

The Wisconsin Lawyers Assistance Program (WisLAP) provides confidential, meaningful assistance to lawyers, judges, law students, and their families in coping with depression, alcoholism and other chemical addiction, acute and chronic anxiety, and problems related to the stress of practicing law.

WisLAP treats each request for help with the same confidentiality as a lawyer-client relationship. WisLAP is exempt from reporting professional misconduct to the Office of Lawyer Regulation under the provisions of Wisconsin Supreme Court Rule 20:8.3(c). WisLAP does not use "caller ID" devices. Family members, professional associates, and concerned others who seek help in dealing with these issues also are treated confidentially.

If you have ever faced uncertainty, you know that it can be difficult to find someone to talk to who has gone through the same thing - or even someone who can offer a sympathetic ear and sound advice. WisLAP staff is available 24 hours a day.
